Dealing in stolen property is worse than actually being charge with the theft. Call the Det. and set up a buy. We have done this alot and normally the person selling the item is just a fence who holds the keys to a whole new bag of worms.

^^^ That might be effective if the LEO was willing to help him at this point. Since he can't prove its his until he sees it, doesn't sound like they'll set up a buy.

We do buys all the time. Go meet the guy. When you get there, if it is your item, tell him you have to go get cash and call the cops. If your buddy wants to wait there and keep an eye on him, fine. Don't bring a gun, don't try to play games with the cops, it will just piss them off. Give them as much info as you can, get description of the guy, license plates, pictures, etc.

As long as you're not in east Oakland or richmond or some shite hole like that where the cops have better things to deal with, a patrol guy should be able to help you. Possession of stolen property is a pretty good hook. The guy will probably say he found it or bought it at the flea market, but if you can prove it's yours, he will still go to jail. Detectives are up to their asses in paperwork, so it generally takes a lot to get them out of the office.

    Here ya go, ha!

After thinking a little, I think I would have his buddy drive a second vehicle to the meet and park within site. I'd come up with a signal once he positively id's the item, scratch the nuts or something, and the near by friend would call the police with details. This way he can talk to the guy and stall as long as he wants with no time wasted.

Well done. Also use the buddy in the other car to follow him if you can't stall. This way he won't see your car behind and get spooked.

Well bad news guys. I literally just got home and was just about to call him, when I got this text:

    2rc94j6_4d2c8219570cc3533cc500870de45c66155ea7c0.jpg

Guess I'm SOL. But he also made his facebook completely private all of a sudden, so I wonder if he got sketched out. Sorry to disappoint those who were expecting a better outcome.

Dang that suck. Now you should stalk him. Leave note all around saying how if you steal from me again I will bone your mother. Haha JK. Sucks to bad you can't lock down the phone so who ever buys it knows it was stolen.

IF you indeed have the ESN of the phone you need to call your provider and report the phone as stolen. That way nobody can activate the phone again.
Even on a network with a sim card (GSM) the phone will not work. It will blacklisted.
