Rent a truck and trailer and bring it home. Ive had to do that before. It might cost a $1000 but its probably going to be less expensive then that shop that isnt local to you.

Edit: or if you have a friend with a truck you could just rent a tow dolly being you have a manual transmission.

If I could, boys I would. I have to travel to Fresno California Monday for work. And I need today and tomorrow to go over engineering specs on the jobs out there.
So I took it to a place which a few people I know well vouched for . In Elkins wv.
I’m fighting the urge to start tilting at windmills, maybe this shop will do me alright.
Either way it simply can’t be towed home, at least not for 3 weeks.

I survived , my truck will live again, I’m stubborn as a mule and I have soul bonded with that machine. It will get fixed.
However, my ego died the night this happened, fortunately for me. It was a humbling experience to say the least.
I needed taken down a couple pegs…24 years on the road and this is my first incident. It was graceful fall from grace though.

Nothing material to add beyond what's been said, but another e-pal rooting for you from afar. Glad you weren't hurt. Cannot imagine that the truck won't fully recover based on your report.

For whatever it’s worth, about 20 years ago I flooded the engine of my 95 Ford Explorer when I was off roading. Winched it out of the water, pulled the plugs, turned it over and blew out all the water. Dried off the plugs, put them back in, and it started right up and it ran for another hundred thousand miles. You may be good on yours.

    Best of luck!

Understand your delima(logistics to do/not having time to do)

    when a boat($10k-$20k outboard motor alone) is a sinker…….

IMPERATIVE that the motor gets “pickled”
I.E. plugs pulled/lubricant sprayed into cylinders also the same for harness pigtails
Not rocket science to achieve, but preserves engine to run again

at the very least get that done ASAP.

    if you call insurance
It’s gonna be a total loss from those pix
I’m on my 26th year as ins adjuster…..
(Any ins company will not deal with the hassle of multiple parts failing after submersion for years to come…….AND the company wants to make money on the salvage after paying you)
Shit, that is why 1st thing I do is tell shop to pickle the motor.

However, you can get her running NP if that is your plan
preserving the engine is Priority # One

Yall are great. It’s in the hands of the shop. Can’t wait to hear from them, tomorrow . Hoping beyond hope that they wheeled it into the shop Friday like they said they would and started drying it out.
As for insurance, I have comprehensive and liability, no collision. So all damage falls on my shoulders , as you all well know.
Tomorrow I will be back with an update.
Doubt I’ll be flying to Cali in the morning due to this midwestern ice storm rolling thru my neck of the woods.

    Now for the bad cop.....

unless you're a big time DIY I would get it running and sell it...
the wiring harness is gonna turn against you....

all the connectors will have to be taken apart from time to time and de corrosion...
because of the 12v DC this process never stops.

Its turned from a daily commuter into a hobby truck.

You are lucky it didn't submerge your electronic throttle body, that would of been another $700 or $800

final owner will probably have to replace dash/engine wiring harness(s).

with the ecm, abs modules, transmission wiring.....many problems await this....

    YTFeRNvLVRSZKoR1_d742f7d3-1eb5-47cc-b9ee-5f0ea0d5a5fa.jpg

GM does a better job making wiring water resistant........Toyota did nothing....at least back in those days

If you do keep.....you couldnt be in a better place than these guys here

I don’t have a shop..but my buddy does . And I’m a low voltage dc tech as my job. Done all the suspension work myself. Electric issues are much more dynamic and I have already thought the same, unfortunately. I agree wholeheartedly.
So, it hasn’t been a daily driver for over two years now. My work provides my vehicles.
In essence, you’re correct , and it was already a hobby truck. I actually have a can of deoxit for working on pots in my hyfy home system. Never whipped it out for the truck, but something tells me I’m gonna need to order a value pack of it. Stuffs expensive! Truth hurts sometimes. Rolling with the punches

My plan of attack was to simply replace all the harnesses and piggy’s that I know were in the drink. I have no shortage of funds and hell, let’s be honest…even guys that haven’t went into the drink are old enough now to have harnesses shorting out and such, simply due to age on the first gen’s

No need to replace all engine harnesses

just need to unplug every pigtail and spray with electrical cleaner

    my neighbor swears by CorrosionX
Expensive shit but WAAAY less than any harness.

    BTW
I spoke to some trusted insurance adjusters/supervisors about what happened

04 parts are still readily available.

So I'd go long and liberally replace all questionable parts.

Fellas the shop is doing a good by me.
That’s my only update thus far but I spoke to them today. It’s been in the shop for three days. They said they aren’t getting spark , ordered an ecm should be here soon but they have been continuously slammed with snow.
Control car hey man I may be able to get with you soon but just arrived at work in Cali and I’m gonna be swamped.

Well, they changed the oil and the ignition control module to get spark, they say the engine bay audible alarm won’t stop when the battery is connected, and they are throwing in the towel. They believe the computer is fried. But they don’t have the equipment to test it. And I bet that alarm has a lot to do with them giving up. So far only 300$ or so in the hole. I wanted to update you wonderful people. The audible engine bay alarm may be part of the anti theft he was saying, which may be arresting the engine from starting possibly. But they simply don’t know.
Next most logical thing to do is get it towed over to Toyota in buckhannon wv (although this is open to debate) . Another penny for your thoughts

The engine does turn over, it’s not hydrolocked.
