That's surprising to me, as TGMO is typically cheaper than other options.

I will be doing my own too after the two toyota care ones that are included. We paid for them with the truck so if it's no major hardship to go back for it I see no reason not to. I know some people have said the dealership techs broke stuff but if that's true hold them accountable for those things. If they can't be then that's a good reason to go elsewhere.
I prefer to do it myself if it's not already included or go to an independent mechanic.

Toyota engineers designed the engine and also had an the oil made to their specifications, the oil is easy to get and priced competitively -- good enough for me.

And if the results at 5K look good, they'll recommend 7K on the next report, and so it continues. Good
information to have, that's for sure.

Yes it will be good to know that I can go longer between oil changes. I see a Mobil 1 oil advertised as going 15k miles or a year or something. This report is for regular Mobil 1 0-20 weight oil. I was really curious about how much goodie was left in the oil.
It will be interesting to see the results from the second gen when I send that off for a sample. I've used Castrol in that one and it's getting close to 100k miles on it.

I’m going to stay around 3k I just like changing oil I don’t know why. It’s getting close to spring so I’m pretty excited. I like to take the used stuff down to the local pond and poor it on the baby ducks while the kids and moms look on in horror.

I just read this whole thread and came to the same conclusion I always arrive at when reading through TW.

Do whatever the hell you want and be happy with your decision.

Engineers at Toyota aren’t idiots, and Toyota stakes their reputation on long-lived vehicles. Sure, double guess them all you want, but I’ve owned multiple Toyota’s and always just followed the manufacturer recommendations for all maintenance and guess what, they’ve all lived long lives and given me no problems. I plan to do the same with this one. I have other stuff in life to worry about than trying to re-engineer something Toyota spent tons of R&D on already.

My bad. I should have clarified in my post to not ignore the engineering and science behind the decision at hand. I’m also one who follows the path set forth by manufacturers. If anything I tend to err on the side of caution So much so that I was considering changing my oil already at 400 miles before reading this thread. Now I think I’ll wait...until when...I still can’t decide. But I can tell you it will be sooner than later.

I’m so accustomed to old SBC & BBC flat tappet motors I’ve assembled where you change the oil and filter after cam break in and again at 500 miles. All with super high zinc oils that are like $9/quart.

At the end of the day I feel better doing more maintenance than less. I too will be using GTMCO. If it’s good enough for them it’s good enough for me. Not all will agree on this and that is also ok with me.
