Gentle reminder to simply look at the first post and ignore the useless memes. If you're curious about what the oil looks like in there before the official 10k first oil change...

You have 3 solid data points
    3000
    4000
    7000
Oil changes are all here. All show significantly elevated metals, that get flushed out with subsequent changes.

If you're looking for said data happy to point you that way.

    This.
Whether some manufactures recommend 3,000 or 10,000 miles...seems the the industry standard is 5,000 miles between oil changes.

    I have a '14.5 Camry and an '18 CH-R that I bought new.
Did the first oil change on both of them at 1500 miles. After that, I change it between 7500-10,000 miles, but it usually winds up being around 8000.
Will be doing the same with my Tacoma once I get it.

I have many cars. I can change oil. I can change filter. Worried about fumoto valve shearing off at local mall. Sometimes drain tranny by mistake. My tires rub at full lock. I recommend one brand of oil because they give me cool hat and many stickers. I buy Chinese rip off Pro skid plate to save $13 then paint it red. I have many opinions. Must post them all.

I don’t know what’s a bigger douche move, not changing your oil in 41k miles because “it’s not your car”, or bragging about it on an enthusiast forum. I second the karma comment.

Not sure about Toyota but I have a 2015 Ford Mustang, that I don't drive very much, as it's a weekend cruiser. The oil change light will come on after 1 year, regardless of mileage. So, I assume, Ford's R&D decided that was the longest time interval they would tolerate for warranty purposes.

If I recall correctly the first Tacoma I purchased new 2001, the recommended 1st change was 1000 miles and was the only free one.
Interesting results, I'm curious why the high molybdenum content? Either assembly grease or additive?
I changed the oil in both our current Tacomas at 1k miles. 5k or less after (they were free but didn't have the miles on mine).
What's that place charge to do oil samples and do they provide a sample container and shipping box? I ask because some companies that my work uses do provide that.

Black stone charges $30 for a test. They can send you post paid containers that have everything you need, a sample vial, an Absorber in case of a leak and a bag. It all goes in an outer square black bottle. You can pay $10 more if you want the TBN test done that shows how much life the additive has left, that's helpful if you want to extend the drain intervals.
The test can show you a lot, and I understand even things like fuel, antifreeze and silicon which is a marker for dirt sometimes. One of the tests years back on my Jeep showed some higher silicon and I found a latch on the air filter was messed up. I fixed it and the next sample improved.
12 year ago when I started using them the price per sample started at $25 but you had to also pay the postage to them then.

That is an interesting historical factoid. That seems to coincide with the high metal content of the oil in new engines. There are plenty of other manufacturers that recommend the first oil change to happen far earlier than the subsequent intervals.

Still amazed to see how many are discussing subsequent intervals here. Original unedited post clearly states NEW TACOMA and FIRST OIL CHANGE. Just for those who are new to joining in.

I am wondering if anyone has changed theirs' at 1k miles with a blackstone report.

It’s a huge pile of shit compliments of know nothings here’s something for you oil change hero’s out there it’s the recommendation from Kendall in the 1930s. That’s not some hippy dippy peace sign it’s a recommendation to do 2000 mile oil changes, they all did it that way in the 1930s.

9 pages is nothing. These oil threads are epic shit shows.

Everyone with an opinion and an asshole with have their say. The only thing that can save us now is if someone starts a thread debating the best BRAND of oil.

Let's all pray that this happens asap.

I giving thought to check mine at the 20k mile mark just out of curiosity and another data point for the thread.
Interesting, seems they didn't program the maintenance required light to come on at 10k miles as opposed to 5k. Seems like that should have been easy enough to do.
