Some Landcruiser dudes from Ih8mud are doing an Oregon Backcountry Discovery Route trip May 13-15 if anyone is interested. It's just a few of us so far, have room for several more rigs. We'll meet at the gas station on North Main near the grocery outlet in Prineville on the 13th at 0600, drive the back roads to Seneca, camp, drive to Unity, camp, then finish out Sunday driving to Meacham and back whence you came.

Route 4 to Route 5 section 3 to section 4.

I know most of you guys don't "offroad" but you could do most of this in your moms camry. Mostly gravel roads with some two track, nothing that would require lockers although there may be a few snow drifts. One minor water crossing, but there is a bypass if you're chicken.

Last year we did it on May 1st, and it was farking cold. 17F one night. This year should be warmer, especially two weeks later, but you never know. We just did the walmart tent thing and survived. No need for anything fancy.

Take a few days off, it will be worth it. I'm a little concerned about the snowpack, but it should be mostly melted off by then and if it isn't we will find a way around it. Here is the thread on mud- http://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/spring-2016-obdr.902411/

I'd be a little worried about snow too, much larger snow pack this year than last. What's the highest elevation? I've got a pretty slammed next few months but I'd like to try and make this. Been wanting to do some of the OBDR and it would be cool to go with someone familiar with it. What I'd probably do is head down there early Thurs afternoon and camp and then high tail it home Sunday when we are done.

It's mostly under 6000', and the snow is already pretty sparse below 5000'. In two months... we'll see I guess.

Should be. I'm kinda worried about the city people bringing toddlers, last year it got down to 17F. I guess they can make another one pretty easy. :D

It was warmer up there yesterday than it was in Pendleton. Meacham broke the record high temp with 77F, old record was 67F. Streams are running high across the region, and with another warm day today we have some concerns of flooding. Next week should also be warm, with a slight chance of thunderstorms. I predict we won't have problems with snow until day 4. I posted on mud, need some input on camp 3B, sounds like only one guy wants to go to a campground but he doesn't mind boondocking.

Still lots of snow in the Northern blues (day 4 of the trip) and I don't think it will all melt in a week. Maybe, either way it will be fun.
