Because hyundai's are POS's to work on, and you would never buy one if you had to pay for alll the labor to keep them running..

Hyundai has a nice lineup these days and are definitely making some very competitive good looking vehicles. Most people are set in their perception of what they think an automaker is, so many will always associate Hyundai with being junk, the same way a lot of people will never get that Toyota is essentially turning into the new GM. Outside of the truck offerings, Toyota does nothing for me.

I love the Genesis coupe myself. I'd love a 3.8 Track edition as a fun weekend car.

I cant resist the temptation not to respond.

Hyundai sell, like a 100 vehicles and Toyota sells like a 100 million plus vehicles worldwide. Warranties mean nothing to me. Reputation does and dont forget resale value. What does a 10 year old Hyundai fetch and a similar Toyota fetch in the market. Consumer confidence in Toyota over rules the confidence Hyundai is trying to manufacture.

the most reliable vehicles have the worst warranties...like toyota and honda...the others try to offer that so people will buy their cars....but you don't need a warranty on a toyota or honda cuz they last so long

Last time I checked, I see more Hyundai's than toyotas. I love the Genesis Coupe. Nice car. Not bad for their first sports car either.

Let's talk about toyota's quality and warranties...

I will tell you guys one thing....My truck is half the truck my old 2000 tacoma was. The old one felt stronger, more sturdy. The sheet metal was heavier and i felt like i could take it up a tree.

This one...Not so much. It feels more like a show truck than a bad ass off road truck. Hell, the wife's fingernails scratch the door handles every time she opens the damn door. My old one went through a patch of blackberry bushes and barely had a scratch...that i noticed anyways...lol

Dont get me wrong, i like this truck...but i think its not quite as meteor proof as the old one...Except for the big rusted out hole in my old frame...lol

Actually, Hyundai still manufactures the Tiburon.

    Why? I don't know.

The tiburon is not being produced currently. Rumor is, is that it will be brought back.

I am with what you are saying. Not because they have a good warrantee, but the cars actually are SO MUCH better than they used to be.
I dont like Hyundais, but they ARE the car company to watch in the next 10 years...and I work for VW.
I remember in the 80's when Toyota was breaking into the US market and the perception was they were garbage...

I'm not a Hyundai fan. Have always and will always be a Toyota fan- that being said my daughter and son-in-law (both minimum wagers)bought a new Hyundai car for $9K (that's cheap even up here) with a 5 year warranty and all the other things. They feel good about having a "new" car and it has a decent warranty. They are happy with it (in fact the s-i-l loves it) 30000 kilometers and not an issue with it. So what can I say? At least a family with limited income can get a new car that may or may not be without problems but they at least have a warranty to back up some of the anticipated problems. And that makes them feel good.

Actually, you're right. I did read somewhere that it would be re designed and back in production.

Since I started this thread my wife and I went ahead and purchased a 09 Sonata (her daily driver) to go along with my Taco. Her and my only complaint so far is the seats. Not very comfortable for a long drive, also the wheels are steel with fake plastic wheel covers. But were not trying to conquer the world with this thing, just want something dependable and affordable. The real test will be a Minnesota winter...

Hyundai has been fighting the stigma that Korean cars are crap and the long warranty period is part of that.

I almost bought a 2000 Tiburon instead of the Nissan Frontier I ended up with. Hyundai didn't have any manual transmission models here so I never did it. From what I've seen the build quality and value of their cars have steadily increased since then.

I personally wouldn't buy one because I've still got that mindset about Korean cars that Hyundai has been trying to change. They make nice vehicles and I could easily mistake the Genesis sedan for a Lexus if it wasn't badged. Their Genesis coupe is a little rough around the edges when compared to its competition but the difference in price is staggering.

First of all I have been watching Hyundai since they first came up with the Excel in the late eighties. That was a junk car back then. When I was a kid (I'm now 51) Toyota, Honda, and Datsun (now Nissan) was total junk and anyone that bought one had to have their head examined. Now they are near the top of the quality scale. Hyundai is IMO an up and coming company that should not be discounted as junk. It's quality is improving more and more each year. I bet we see a upscale line of vehicles from Hyundai in the future like Lexus, Acura, and Infinity.

That being said, warranties are marketing tools. They instill a false confidence in otherwise inferior product. I had a '92 Dodge minivan years ago that had a great warranty on the drive-train. With 3 transmissions in 66,000 you can't tell me that was a quality product. Yes, all 3 were replaced under warranty but all 3 were still junk.

A lot of vehicles are like that now. Some of the people on the EMS have brand new vehicles. Jeep and Dodge. Both have steels with plastic "alloys".

I laugh at them every time.

Meanwhile my partner and I (She drives a honda Pilot) both have real alloy wheels. HA!
