I'll believe it when I see it. The problem with the 2007 and up diesels is there is so much emissions bullshit that really hurts these engines. Weather it's dpf or diesel exhaust fluid just more crap to go wrong. Now one you delete all the emissions crap that will definitely run a lot better. I know guys with the new 6.7 powerstroke. Stock they were getting like 14 mpg now with everything deleted and with a h&s tuner they get up wards of 20. And man will they flat out run once everything is deleted

Was doing some reading on it, in the link and others.
Looks like that want to test the waters and offer it in a few years, a 5L V8 that they will have used and tested in the Titan, then offer in the tundra in some form or fashion for a few years, then work up a Toyota diesel, if the other is selling.

I don't see why not, it is done in the big trucks and not looked down on, several of the over the road trucks have the same motor or let you pick the brand you want in your truck. Why not have a few Diesel builders like cummins building them.

At one point you could get a cummins in a Ford, Chevy, and Dodge, all in the same year.
I think it went in the 3/4 and 1 ton for dodge and chevy offered them in the top kick and ford in the 550 and 650 SD... is what I remember.

Problem is the "diesel option" only come in the top optioned truck, and I personally am not paying $50,000 for a Tacoma. Think that is far-fetched? I see 2014 Tacomas with stickers at $40k now, a couple years of inflation and bam $50k. I personally would rather buy a dressed down Tacoma with the 2.7L 4-banger and drive it carefully to get 22mpg.

Not really, look at all the others, and look at the new Ram 1500 diesel, it is able to be had in any trim package. The 3/4 and 1 ton also you can get the base model, most dealers do not order them but they are out there, and you can also order from them, try that with Toyota.
I ordered two Dodge Cummins Diesels and had great luck with them. Got them with what I wanted on them. When I moved to Toyota I was told by the dealers it is what it is and how they are ordered and shipped, no special orders.
May be something with SouthEast Toyota, but I could not order, I had to take the package they offered and stocked or could transfer in.

I'd be allover a Taco with a cummins. I think alot of people would jump on board to a small diesel with decent fuel economy and power.
