Our 3.5 doesn't sound quite right with an aftermarket exhaust. I personally am not a fan of the raspy/ ricer sounds that come from the aftermarkets, especially at higher RPMs. I was in the market myself but after some research decided to avoid the cabin drone and stay stock

same here. I had an aftermarket muffler(Flowmaster Super 44) on for 1 day....
before I put the stock back on. Truck sounded like shit.

I bought the dual-exit Cat-Back and almost took it back off. 6 months later it settled in really nicely; resonates much lower than you would expect and lost all but a little of the notorious drone at highway speeds. I would highly recommend it, actually; I love it that much.

I just installed it on my 2016 TRD OR 6MT and it sounds great. Mine is the 3" with the turndown before the axle. Here's a quick sound clip of it on a cold start.

It's loud under acceleration but once you're cruising, it's not noticeable.

I have this same exhaust, bought it a few months ago for a crazy deal. I was not too big on it when i first installed it, but after a couple months of it getting broke in I enjoy the sound alot more, kinda wish it was deeper but i guess i can get a resonator for that.

ditto. the vid in this thread, it sounds like a junkyard geo metro. absolutely
doesn't sound like a 'performance muffler', it sounds like there is a hole in the
    exhaust. seriously

That is what mine sounded like. Brand new truck, I leave in the AM, wife
calls me.... "was that you, what happened to the new truck babe!?!?" Oh, that's
the NEW exhaust I put on that sounds like canned ass!! :D Seriously it sounded
just like the muffler and connecting pipe broke off - all I could think was I was so
fkn happy I tossed the stock parts in the bed and could change it right back out, I
didn't even want to drive it like that.

The video really makes it sound like that. Completely different in person. The drone isn't bad at highway speeds. I have the manual tranny, so maybe the 4.30 gears helps the load on the motor a bit.

Everyone understands that these trucks are V6's, right? You're not going to get V8 sound from it no matter what. It may rumble nice and low at idle, but under any load, it's gonna sound the way it sounds. I'm perfectly happy with the sound as it sounds the way a V6 should. The drone fades the longer it's on the truck. The muffler has to get broken in and once it gets broken in, the sound mellows.

Absolutely, that's why most of us choose not to put an aftermarket on there. It just doesn't sound right. Of course, everyone likes different things so if you enjoy the exhaust tone, then great. But OP was asking our opinion on them so we gave our opinion. Don't get all butt hurt because no one likes the way it sounds.

I had the black version on the 16' Limited I had. I didn't care for the sound or drone so I took it off and sold it before I traded in the truck.

I'm not butt hurt nor do I get butt hurt over a post on the internet. I really don't care if people like how it sounds or like my rig for that matter I just find it comical how on other exhaust posts people complain about it not sounding V8 enough or complain about the "drone" or whatever with these trucks. I get the that the drone sound bothers some people, but it's a truck, not a luxury vehicle. With any aftermarket exhaust, you're going to hear it, it's inevitable. The drone noise is significantly reduced if not taken away by dynomatting the back of the cab and under the carpet.

This is my 6th tacoma and 9th Toyota vehicle in 24 years. All of my Tacomas have been off-road builds and have had aftermarket exhaust. They were all loud initially but settle in nicely after a few months. If you're going with a full length system the drone isn't as bad, when it's dumped before the axle, the drone is there but easily managed with soundproofing.
