Been looking into getting a new exhaust for the taco. Done some research and it seems the mbrp is the best and somehow the cheapest exhaust you can get for the Tacoma. Does anyone have this 3 inch catback exhaust? Is it worth the money? Does it sound like a shitty 4 banger with a cheap muffler?

Also, if anyone has had it for a good period of time, how is the rust issue with it? I know it's cheaply made, I also realize it depends on where you live and the climate and all that but I'm curious as to how long it can last without any sort of rust proofing.

    Cheers!!!

It's a pretty damn loud exhaust. Theres a constant drone while on the highway but I really enjoy hearing my engine so that one's personal preference. The exhaust doesn't make it sound like a 4 banger at all, just a deeper growling V6. As for the rust, I haven't seen any yet.

U can probably have a muffler welded in place cheaper.
Clamps dont always work well with catbacks. 3" also seems overkill.

My urd catback leaked at the clamps, so i had it welded years ago... It be what it be

I agree with the welding. I had the dude weld the clamps onto the exhaust.

Also what do you mean by 3" being overkill?

Actually i didnt realize you guys were 278 hp..... 3" may be a decent size after all.
    That 3.5 makes decent numbers

OP are you looking for raw sound clips of the exhaust?

I've watched some YouTube videos on it, but that's all done through who knows what kind of cheap phone/camera/mic..I don't trust YouTube video clips. I wish I knew someone who had the muffler locally that I could go hear it in person. But if I have people replying to me on here saying it sounds good then Ill trust their judgement. But to answer your question, hell yeah ill listen to some raw audio clips

    Smart

Most mics are good for 20hz- 20khz..... That said, i recorded my truck with one exhaust and then another. Gopro was in same location, truck was in same garage. The gopro did NOT capture the sound difference at all.
In person the truck went from meh, to a healthy deep rumble that rattled the walls in the third bedroom down (slight, but still noticable thanks to items hanging on wall).

I played back the video in my living room, the sound difference just wasnt there. I have a pair of svs pb2000 subs capable of sub 20hz reproduction. So it wasnt my system.

The lower hz is what can rlly get annoying on long drives, yet sounds amazing outside of the truck.

I imagine the mic tends to balance volume as well... Like when i watch demolition ranch on YouTube, the guy talking about the gun sounds normal, then he fires said gun... Whatever he says for about 3 seconds after the shot is fired comes out muffled... Then his voice comes back to a normal volume.

Probably a little like how cameras dim bright lights as soon as they turn on.

Take online videos of exhausts as stepping stones, then try and find someone with the setup you thought sounded good on the tube.

I agree with all of this, you will hear it in the cab. I personally like the way it sounds. As far as the clamps, I haven't had any leaks so far. I also have the mbrp race exhaust on my mustang and no leaks or rust on it either.

I used a zoom H4n pro sound recorder for the exhaust tests. Feedback was the recording was very accurate. It's used to record live concerts.

Oh shit! Ive watched alot of your videos! If the exhaust sounds anything like your video then I'm definitely gonna have to go with the mbrp. By any chance do you have the model number of the exhaust? Thanks !!
