No threads of this caliber shall die before a Friday

If OP is that concerned he should negotiate with his mechanic. OP pays for a new part and mechanic installs the part for his cost of labor.

I want to go to Japan, or get some sushi before it is too late tonight.

Here's a taste of Japan. This is pics from 2019 when I went to the Tokyo Skytree. Tallest self-supporting tower in the world and the second tallest structure in the world after the Burj Khalifa. It dwarfs anything in the USA... Its also built on one of the most earthquake prone areas on the planet, an engineering marvel. Tokyo is BOLD. Talk about a flex... its owned by the local train company "Tobu" and its sole purpose is basically a tourist/leisure attraction and also a place to mount antennas. Tokyo is the best example I've seen of super advanced modern life blended with traditional culture.

OP...do you work on your own stuff?

I can tell you what your mechanic did is what 99% of all mechanics do. As others have said, they do whatever is necessary to get the job done in as little time as possible.

Case in point, I had to replace the front exhaust pipe from the manifold to the cat on my son's 93 Toyota pickup. I can guarantee you that this had never been off his truck since it was built. The bolts that held the front pipe to the cat were rust-welded in the holes that went through the flanges on the pipe and cat. I had to cut, grind, drill, pry; and beat the heck out of the bolts and flanges to get it apart. Midway through that process I was discouraged as he'll and called my buddy who is a mechanic. He told me that shops do the same thing and to just keep smacking away till it came apart. Well I finally got everything apart and replaced the front pipe. Did everything look perfect when I was done? No, but everything bolted back together and the flanges all sealed back together. Am I worried about it? Nope...my kid is back on the road and not sniffing exhaust fumes in the cab anymore.

Just looking at the pic you provided, he hit the part with a chisel and creased one of the heaviest parts of the rag joint. The metal is not brittle and was soft enough to crease. The pinch bolt went back in and tightened down without damaging the threads, so there was no structural damage done. Just drive your truck and enjoy it.

    Heres another pic
I do work on certain things, like oil changes, fluid changes. I also put the new bushings in the rack on Sunday. When it comes to putting in a new rack I have to defer to a trained mechanic because I'd rather not F it up. I'm going to switch out my sway bar end links and bushings next. That's something I can do without help.

If it were my exhaust dented I wouldn't question it as much.. to me that would be like a dent in the bumper.. That's "down stream" to me and has more margin for error. Exhaust work is kind of an art form anyway with all the creative welding people do. Guess I'll just leave this be for now... If I ever wanna trigger the trolls tho I'll be sure to have it done and post lotsa pix, lol. I'm actually tempted.

I guess things hit differently when you look out the window from the Ritz Carlton Tokyo..

Seemed like a fine view to me for a city in the northern hemisphere in January. (winter)

My preference of the "view of the city on the northern hemisphere" is this

OP after looking at that side view pic you posted of your truck, I see it's in really excellent shape. I think if a picture and description of how nicely you keep your truck had also been put in the first post, it would have helped to have people understand a little bit more about your being frustrated. Not everyone would have necessarily agreed, but at least been a little more understanding. I get why you would want that part to be unflawed after the work at this point, but you're not running any risk with it the way it is. I would only even consider replacing it if you were working on the rack or steering column for other reasons and labor wouldn't be a huge cost.

As I said in my original post, I would absolutely be looking at videos from @Timmah! 's channel on YouTube and DIY write ups on here that relate to any other service you have in the future if you're going to do the work yourself or with someone else and school yourself on the tips and challenges of each repair. It will help you keep a mechanic informed or see where you can assist by pre-soaking joints / bolts, etc. that are prone to getting stuck in penetrating fluid.
