taxes on ammo/guns are most certainly an infringement the same as a tax on a newspaper is.... what if you woke up tomorrow and the state wanted you to pay a fee(tax) to attend church? would you ignore the tax and go anyway because you have right to do something? when you have a right to do something you are the sovereign there is no one else to get permission from(permit) government has no rights because it gets its legitimate power from you and i. i cannot give government a power that i myself do not possess. but i can give you the privilege to walk across my land because i have a right to my land but you do not and that privilege cant be revoked at any time...rights can not be taken away because they were never given in the first place

maybe youd like it if everyone would write something like this up??

No specifics are ever given as to how government is coming to get us.

Tie the foil hats a little tighter boys.

You just don't get it. There doesn't need to be a reason or specific example, and the government isn't coming after us. The fact is that when this country was set up we were given the right to have firearms and that right has not been changed in our constitution, yet it is continually attacked by laws that restrict this right.
    Its like saying:
In order to attend church you need to tell the government which religion you belong to, the church your are to attend and pay taxes or fees based on the religion. (First amendment)
Military can enter your house during peaceful times and demand to stay there and be fed. (Third amendment)
I could keep going on with examples, we should never be a reactionary society because mistakes happen and people overreact to the smallest things. Keeping our rights is something we must fight for day in and day out to make sure that we are able to enjoy the freedoms that were fought for many years ago and are continually fought for today.

i agree with what youre getting at but the constitution doesnt give me any rights the amendments in the constitution is a restrain on government and not me...my rights are inherent in my humanity and come from my creator

the only point of government is to protect my rights and if it isnt it is the duty of the people to alter or abolish it

compare a guy who owns a hunting rifle or shotgun to an police officers duty weapon (handgun). The police officer is outgunned every time. Implying one does not need a certain weapon is the same as dictating what kind of vehicle one should drive under the premise that they dont a need a 4x4 to go get milk and cookies from the grocery store. It just doesnt make any sense.

umm they are supposed to be... they civilian power is always supposed to be superior...if you read the various state constitutions it even says that they are supposed to be... that was a gripe in the declaration of independence

Thank you for the thoughtful and sophisticated post...a straw man and an ad hominem all at once.

I'll type slowly so you understand. Respecting the history of this country and our freedoms does not make one fearful of the government, or a gun owner.

Criminals wouldn't be criminals if they didn't commit crimes, also known as break laws.

A gun law won't stop them just as a no murder law wouldn't or in many drivers' cases, speed limit laws don't stop you.

Cars could come with speed limiters so you could only go the speed set by the government and NO more, EVER.

To ALL: While it seems crazy to retract common laws (such as those dictating what you can/cannot do) because they are engrained in our brains, we have to think for ourselves. It's better to be able to do something and not do it than not have the ability [legally] to do it in the first place.

Gun owners always cite the need for protection from their government as one of the primary reasons they need to have a gun with them at all times. And yet, they can never cite one example of this alleged tyranny. The best you can come up with are rules on what you can eat? And you wonder why many think you paranoid? Even the personal protection argument is a stretch in the majority of the country. It's ok to be honest about the fact that you simply like guns and carrying them.

Your constant efforts to hide behind both your personal fears and an extremely narrow view of what your rights are pretty transparent to most of us.

I suppose that when you're incapable of adding anything of substance to the discussion, trolling is all that's left.

yes, and i agree that there should be restrictions on that right. i don't think i've ever seen so many strawmen in one thread. to me, the issue isn't that there are restrictions, it's what the restrictions are.
