    Truck is now in KC. Fuel pump issue resolved. Fuel line split right where it met the pump... All sounds good and dandy right? As I am getting ready to leave back for work as they put the tank back in I notice some grease on my axle by the right rear tire. The mechanic has the look of fear in his eyes. I told him to check it out and call me back later.

    Just got off the phone with him. My right rear axle seal is completely blown. The grease has completely drenched the brake shoe and can't be salvaged. $1500... SMH

    So they were able to fix the very easy problem of a split hose. Didn't even need a whole new pump.

    This is the same mechanic that I talked with?

    How is it that the one rear set of shoes and a seal can cost $1500? That seal is easy to replace, if it is the one for where the axle shaft bolts to the axle. One set of shoes, a couple cans of brake clean, and a little brake fluid, and all done.....

    I'll do it for $300.... lol

    I just bought a new whole set of shoes for ~$58. The cost isn't in those.....

    I just did a quick look on Amazon. Raybestos, and AC Delco drums for around $40. That was the first page. So the factory one cannot be so ridiculously priced to cause the total to be near $1500 with labor.....

    Yeah drums themselves aren't too bad. I meant that the entire brake assembly. Haha. With new axle maybe?;)

    My 1st thought when he said the price was it included labor. Any more labor is more expensive than the parts.

    For any of you who missed it in live... They were pretty adamant about doing both sides when they do one. I told them to do nothing with the left until I got there to look at it. Upon evaluating the status of the left I think I would be asking for trouble down the road so I just let them complete both sides. This has become quite the expensive little adventure over these past couple weeks. I am coming dangerously close to $3k now.

    When they quoted you for one set of shoes, does that 1 package contain both sides worth?

    I just wish there was more I could do. It just feels like your are at their mercy and cannot even get a first hand view of things before work has to be done.
