Hey y'all - I need to clean up the battery on my 2017 Tacoma. Thing is the last battery I touched was on a 94 Toyota Pickup. I was reading that there can be memory issues if you disconnect the battery on some of the newer vehicles. Anyone had any issues with that?

No. The best thing that can happen is it will unlearn your driving preference. Worst is it will reset your radio preferences which is unavoidable.

I mean because of the "learning" feature of the transmission. But if your manual than no worries.

It will just go back to how it used to shift after a couple hundred miles of relearning. The only unnintended effect being you realize how shitty it shifts. Or not. Could be fine, its all in your head anyways.

Ah I see. Mine is an automatic, but the thing is I just bought it a few days ago. So maybe having it re-learn the driving preferences might not be a bad thing then?

I just changed my battery, and power was disconnected for maybe 8-10 minutes. Nothing changed including the radio pre-sets.
There are a bunch of easy ways to keep it powered if you feel the need. Do a quick search on You Tube.

Worst case scenario your alarm goes off while you're standing right in front of the truck re-connecting your battery. Have your key fob ready. You'll probably only lose radio preferences.

I did some work this weekend on my truck, had the battery unhooked for 8 hours. When I plugged it back in the only thing I had to reset was the cluster brightness.

Be advised, the radio does take longer to boot up after power has been removed for awhile.

Your trip meters will reset so if you need the numbers they are at , write them down.

FYI ,I replaced my Battery on April 22 . I just corrected what I think was a glitch from possibly disconnecting the battery ? I had been having a problem with the driver door touch handle for unlocking the doors and a problem with my OBD2 fusion adapter not connecting without removing it, and putting it back on . This was all since the battery swap.
The door touch handle would make the beep sound when touching it but the doors would not unlock unless I used the whole handle and tried to open the door . This would trigger the unlock . I kept thinking I was not waiting for the timer to reset etc.(already had new batteries in the fobs)
Anyway , I went into settings in the entune sys, and went to customize vehicle page. the vehicle icon was grayed out , but the backup cam settings was not . I went into the backup icon and backed out . Now the vehicle icon was lit . I went into it and unchecked the unlock all doors option and put it back on and backed out all the way and shut the truck off .
Now the door locks work again by just touching the door and the OBD2 adapter connects right away again .

Anyway I do not know if it was from changing out the battery but that is the only other thing I did before the quirks started .

Good job figuring things out. It's stuff like this that helps all of us.

    Thanks,

After disconnecting the battery for a while I have to drive about 100 miles before my AC starts blowing cold again

I’m thinking there’s something very wrong there. I’d ask the dealer to check it out.

Very scientific, thanks. My old Tacoma did that too.
