I have some time off coming up soon and want to find some off roading in Mendo NF. I have some spots in mind but was curious if anyone knew any lakes to get to that can be camped at.

Letts Lake is the only one I have found so far and its got some trout. Anyone else familiar with any spots out there? Preferably NF dispersed camping!

Lake Pillsbury obviously, other than that what you see on google maps is all there is. There are a few small lakes way north in the NF, and a handful more in the Yolla Bolly wilderness, but otherwise it's pretty sparse. There are some nice swimming holes along the Eel River and other creeks too.

I camped along the eel river back in April. Super pretty but no idea if there are fish in it.

Maybe give a ranger station a call?

There's a great swimming hole just east a bit of "Eel River Campground" outside of Covelo.

The M1 (dirt route) which will take you from Lake Pillsbury up to Hull Mountain, and north to Covelo is a pretty fun drive. There is some BLM camping up on the ridge line. I think it was called "Grizzly Flats"?
The M1 dumps out at the Eel River Campground, but if you continue on it for about 1 - 2 miles east, there's a spot on the left with a 1/4m hike down to the river, and a fantastic boulder field/swimming hole.

DM me, and I can probably help with more specifics.
