I just installed the Meso Customs Stage 1 tail light kit on my 2017 Toyota Tacoma SR. Is it normal to have hyperflash on only the passenger side turn signal? The driver side works fine...but the passenger side hyperflashes when the engine is running. When the key is only in the accessory position and the engine is off, it doesn't hyperflash...only when driving. It doesn't hyperflash when the hazards are on either. I ordered the resistor kit, hopefully that will fix the prob...any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

It does happen. Some have both sides hyperflash, some only one, some it doesn't hyperflash at all. The resistors should take care of your problem.

Thank you so much for the reply!! That's Awesome to hear...Can't wait till they get here...Should I install them both, or just on the one side that's hyperflashing? I don't wanna create a problem on the good side ya know? I guess what I'm asking will it be harmful to the good side if I install them both, or will it be kind of an insurance policy in case something changes down the road? Hope that makes sense lol!

I can't really answer your question from personal experience because I got lucky. When I did my install I got no hyperflash at all from the turn signals. The only time I get hyperflash is what just about everyone has reported - if you put the truck in reverse when the turn signal is on, the turn signal will hyperflash and will continue to hyperflash on all turn signals with or without reverse until you shut down and restart the truck. Then it returns to normal. If you want to fix this as well as your current issue then install both. I chose to leave well enough alone because I wasn't getting any hyperflashing except in that one limited circumstance, which is very rare for me.

Maybe someone with more electrical experience than me can chime in as well. What I would do is install the resistor for the one side you have the issue with, then test before you button everything up. If that works, install the other one and test again. If you have an issue there you can remove the second one. Don't forget to test with your turn signal on and the truck in reverse.

    Oh look, another mod....
I had this happen to me about a year ago. I was like "What the FUCK!?!". I didn't have hyper flash before that day and haven't had it since. My stage 1 works like a champ, and I don't have the resistors installed.

After I shut down the truck and started it back up, the issue fixed itself. It's a weird issue that happens ONLY when in reverse. But hey, who signals while reversing?

I did it completely by accident one day, but I knew what it was as soon as it happened because I had read the comments about it. The only time you'd signal with your truck in reverse is when you are parallel parking, which I haven't had to do since I bought the truck 19 months ago. I ordered the resistors with the total tail stage 1 kit and never installed them. I have them in the garage just in case I need them in the future, but so far my stage 1 kit has been functioning perfectly also.

That's so crazy...I'm gonna go out right now and try the whole reverse thing...I don't typically use my turn signals in reverse, but I can see where people would while parallel parking. Now you got me curious lol!

Yup! Sure enough... hyperflash with both turn signals when in reverse. (So bizzare) I guess now I wait for the resistors to come and see if that fixes my prob. Thanks for everyone's help, and I'll keep you updated.

Mine doesn't have resistors. Bought it 2nd hand off a tw member. I also have morimoto xb LED headlights and meso Dome and map lights.

Only time I hyperflash is when using turn signal in reverse, which I've only done once because I was looking to see if I could force my system to hyperflash somehow

Not surprised. That's been pretty much across the board. Let us know how you make out with the resistors.

    I appreciate the response.

I ran the total tails for about a month without the load resistors and didn’t have any issues. Then one day the hyperflashing started after I used my 4-way flashers. I went ahead and bought the load resistors just to prevent any further issues.

That was a few months ago and the setup has been great ever since.

Get the resistors. There isn’t really anything for them to fix other than to include resistors in the kit.

If i remember right, i think they used to include them in the kit, but so few trucks needed them that they omitted them from the kit. Either way I'm super stoked that I don't have the dreaded hyperflash! Yay!

Having trouble making the kit work with a brake-light tap.

I have a canopy installed and thus need a splitter that taps the drivers side brake light power the high mounted brake light in the canopy. With the kit installed, the canopy light won't function. I've tried swapping bulbs, I've tried switching where the tap pulls from (after meso harness or before), nothing seems to work at getting everything to work together. I'm assuming there's just not enough juice from this wire to run both bulbs plus another light. Anyone else experience this or have any tips?

Have you indeed verified that the canopy lamp works? As in testing it illuminates via another fused source?
