Once meso posted that pic on Instagram I consciously stopped using that button.
what’s worse is my daily commute is like 4 minutes so I don’t even listen to anything. But I did today.

Just ordered mine, I couldn't see/find a discount...not too worried about that. But finally no more switching songs when I wanna blast the volume UP haha thanks MESO!

Installed mine today. 15 minutes. Just checked and I have the same lighting issue with the upper speaker not showing. Seems to be a common production issue @Travis@Meso .

The MESO lights look to be in the same location and intensity as OEM. Must have something to do with the dome not letting the photons go the way we want.

It's like the puddle pod switch led. For an electrical newbie like me, it's a few new tools and a pain in the ass project to crack open and fix.
At least you won't have to change the led color like the Anytime Backup switch if it does require adjustment.
I want this but at the same time, I don't want to have to open and fix brand new products anymore. Hope it gets sorted.

Im curious because i just helped with another friend with a different product for his taco with the same problem. Does anyone have a picture of a shot of the back of the buttons both aftermarket and stock? From what i've read so far in this thread, it seems to be less of a problem with led placement and more of a problem of light redirection. Might be able to solve very easily with some precise placement of some kind of reflection material, like aluminum tape. But I'd really need to see the back and how the divisions for keeping the light inside and from leaking sit.

Edit: i did see now that the leds on the meso board seem to be a lot more recessed behind the board. that might also have a major effect on light redirection.

Installed yesterday and have the same issue. My + speaker icon is semi-illuminated (better than pics posted here so far I think?) but very dim. Time will tell if the lighting issue bothers me bad enough to do anything about it.
For now I’m just very happy with the button orientation

Seems like most who bought this are having this problem. Its unfortunate and could be avoided in designing elements such as the location of the led, amount, etc. But like i said things could be done to amplify/re-direct the light to better illuminate the other buttons. hopefully someone can snap some pics before the install so i could make a suggestion or two.

They could have pulled the product to refine the + speaker illumination design. Also, one email suggested the 4runner harness counterpart was fully soldered in, so they may have temp pulled the product because of that too.

I think that a light pipe would solve the issue but I’m not sure that it bothers me enough to fool around with it.

Hopefully MESO will have something to say and can make this the mod that it should be. No reply from them yet to my support ticket, but looks like they have been busy working on some 4Runner compatibility issues. This item is so close to being perfect!

So last night I dug into it a bit and concluded that the problem is the design by Toyota not MESO. The light has to travel up to the switch cover through a thin black canyon and then bend at an angle to illuminate the symbol. I reinstalled the OEM board and the light looked identical to the new one, probably why I never noticed that they were supposed to be illuminated. I’m not an expert but it seems to me that the solution is to add a light pipe or a new led at twice the intensity.

I will take a look at my lighting. I used the button, but stayed with the factory board as I have a Maestro. If the issue is a Meso one, I should see a difference. I also should mention that I can easily swap the parts to compare as I have a spare steering wheel with the controls. I’ll report back with my findings….

I hadn't paid a lot of attention to the backlight on the OE volume control button before. Turned on the headlights and turned off the lights in the garage last night and it's all fairly dim. Not nearly as bright as some of the other controls. So per @Captqc, it just seems to be a design thing rather than a MESO thing. It's not a deal breaker for sure but if someone comes up with an easy "upgrade", I'm in. ;)
