MESO Puddle Light build

@mesojdm just went through the whole thread and didnt see a price and ETA. lol im down even for the 1st batch to give my feedback. count me in.

 

Im interested in this too, also interested when these lights would turn on. Would they be a proximity with the dome lights, or would they turn on with the bed lights, or a combination of both.

Id love to be able to turn them on with the bed light switch

 

Actually my Golf R has both, adaptive headlights and Cornering lights... Miss it on the taco.

I’ve been playing with the idea of developing cornering lights for my Tacoma. These puddle lights would be perfect if they were angled out towards the front a little more. Would be as simple as tapping into the CANbus and just having them turn on/off based on a certain steering angle.

 

Why not have both, motorize the puddle lights with a tiny servo. When you turn the servo pushes the light to aim more forward, then when you go straight the servo moves it back. They could then be puddle lights that also do turning.

IDK how to wire any of that up though.

 

That would be very do-able, but convoluted. There’s only so much room up in the mirror housing, plus more parts to break, replace etc. I think there’s a sweet spot they could be aimed to act as puddle lights and cornering lights without the servo.

As far as wiring, you’d have to have a module tapped into the CANbus somewhere (2 wires, CAN H & L) and a relay to power the lights. The module would be programmed to handle the rest.

 

Question, hope it wasn't already asked. If they are tapped into the dome, and I or a passenger turn the dome light on while driving down the road, these would come on too right?

 

Good point, these should be tapped into the bed lights.

 

I don't think the bed lights turn on as you approach the truck, like the dome lights do.

Meaning, I don't think they'd work with the proximity sensor.

They will turn on when you unlock the truck or approach it(replicate dome function). NO they will not turn on if you manually turn the dome on from inside the cab.

Tapping off dome circuit is better for function. But what you could do is tie off BOTH. Dome and bed. So you can manually activate them from the bed light switch.
