Sucks to have to take everything back out . I was trying to avoid anything that would keep mine from not working once installed . Had mine for a good year , worked flawlessly after install . Funny thing is I have the switch and I keep them off . Bought them just to say I have them but leave them off a 100% of the time .

Mine are usually off as well as my main driving times are during the day. Only turn them on at night. Same with map / dome and footwell lights.

I wouldn't be worried honestly. It's been an interesting week for me lol, I'm on a roll for weird shit happening.

Beats me, although my testing for the lights pre-install was only for about 15 seconds to just see them light up, maybe not long enough for whatever to happen.

Truck is at Toyota now, now the waiting game.

Curious to see what they come up with as well. Hope nothing serious.
Did you put the other caps on and say I’m not sure what happened, I went to start, saw the smoke come out and tried to turn it off?

Not bashing you or anything at all if that’s what you did, it’s what I would do too… was just curious what you said to them.

Have a look at the ECU connectors that were disconnected during the install. They should be in the passenger and driver side kick panels. If you used a fish tape or an abrasive device to fish wires through the boot, it’s possible you may have nicked something close to the boot.

So, when I read your post earlier, I had thought to ask about a dash cam as well. Do you have it wired to your rear view mirror with that special harness from Amazon? It’s only speculation but I remember reading in a thread here a long time ago about those causing issues.

I do, but it is interesting because my setup has been status quo for about a year now with zero issues. Just overall a confusing situation.

That is pretty odd but maybe they are all connected. I don’t remember when I saw that post but I’ll see if I can find it. Not that be bringing it up after they got your truck helps much…

Yeah unfortunately from my issues I believe my BCM is fried. Not sure there's much I can do in terms of disconnecting stuff at this point, but we shall see.

OP when you disconnected the battery, did you disconnect both terminals, just the negative or just the positive?

There was an old thread were someone fried their bcm when they switched out a dome light, but they left the battery connected and it shorted.

In your case the battery was disconnected. Did you inspect all of the connectors? i don’t know if it’s possible, but maybe one is the leads got pushed out or bent and maybe caused a short that way?

With regard to your backup anytime and dashcam mods. They can kick rocks.
They have to prove that those modifications caused the problem you’re having.

Still looking for the tread, I’ve found a few but maybe it was just the review I remember reading-

Interesting. I believe he’s referring to the 7.5a ecu fuse. Which mine checked out okay. Hmmmm. Dang lol.

I have been working with OP to figure out what is up. We've gone through all scenarios; pinched/shorted wires, bent pins in harness, and even went through each wire connection and pinout location to make sure everything is where it should be. I'm honestly dumbfounded as OP did a test install and checked function before final install, and everything worked. The puddles are pretty straight forward as far as connections go(they just tap dome, ignition, and illumination). We even designed a custom circuit board tester that plugs into each T harness and runs through a series of checks to make sure each wire is in the proper location(which then gets a QC sticker). These puddles have been a very solid product and the only snags I have really ran into are broken plastic clips and a few install errors. Will stay updated...
