So it sounds like if you have the tailgate lock, vleds footwell lights and the puddle pods it could be a recipe for disaster? Bummer because I’d like to do all 3.

I read somewhere that people(person) were having problems with the R4T tailgate lock didn’t see anything about the OEM lock yet.

the R4T is $125 before shipping, you can OEM part for $125-135. Do that instead!

To be clear: OP does not have the VLEDS footwell lighting kit. They have a port-installed accessory lighting kit that uses vampire clips on the dome wires.

That is a great distinction and that you for the clarification on that. I’d have the dealer look into that.

Good morning everyone. I officially have my truck back as of yesterday. I actually had it covered via insurance and got out of this without paying the very large bill, thank god.

Couple things I wanted to clarify. This should by no means be considered a slanderous thread against MESO or his products (or puddle lights). I sent my puddles/harness back to MESO for some intense testing and of course it was perfect and nothing was wrong with it (they installed it on a shop truck with no issues). The actual cause of what happened was not discovered even with every wire pulled from every nook and cranny of the truck. My service advisor at the dealer were joking at first, but at this point with no other leads, we were actually thinking that it could be some sort of lightning strike.

The interior fuse box + BCM, and wiring harness were replaced and everything is working perfectly again.

Unfortunately for me the dealer pulled out every single aftermarket item I have, which was expected but not fun. Going to just throw in my Anytime Backup Camera back in and call it a day.

Thanks to @MESO for sticking with me throughout the roller coaster, the constant communication is extremely appreciated.

    thanks for updating us!

I’m glad you’ve got a resolution for this and don’t have to come out of pocket.

I did the meso stage 1 lights and interior led swap and I was thinking about this thread lol. I pulled the neg wire and waited a min before doing anything and still made me slightly nervous lol

Because of this thread, i am reluctant to install my VLED’s footwell lights. More so since it is not the new plug and play version. Could have been a fluke, or maybe the dash cam adapter could have caused it. I have everything else you have installed and then some, but my dash cam is hard wired at the fuse box and not via that mirror plug. Glad you got it all sorted out though. Sounds like a nightmare situation.

Because of this thread it had me hold off on my install, but I’m glad because the switch came back in stock

I've never disconnected the neg battery wire when wiring in stuff - walking on the edge, I know - but after this thread I will start.

    OP, Glad it got resolved.
I have installed (in this order depending availability) Footwells, Puddle pods, V5's and finally the puddle switch kit. I also have the OE tailgate lock and rearview usb dongle splitter for awhile now. I'm thankful to not have an unfortunate installation experience. I call my Install-Like building my "spider web" for the night. That's why it takes me awhile. I came across this thread because I wanted to know if there is a swicht kit replacement so I can install it right next to the Auto-highbeam blank spot...

You and me both.. ohhh look shiny new tailgate insert! (I’m just going to half ass it and fill the channels in with expanding foam and cut the excess )

For real though, I’m not sure what else I could really do. Are roof racks and more armor really mods? Your just really bolting stuff on lol.. now lights on the roof rack with having to wire it up, that’s a mod…

I have had zero problems with my puddle pods. I would not hesitate to buy again. When I installed mine I did the V5’s, footwell lights and puddle pods all at the same time. Just make sure to disconnect the battery while doing any electrical work.

I have a 23 and I've done a lot of mods. On it and everything is just perfect. I'm getting ready to do door speakers. But I am really afraid. I don't want to run into any problems on my last mod..was about to buy last night...how can you guarantee that I won't the same problem..
On another note I'm confident I can do a professional job since I'm a bodyman by trade or at least used to be but still worried about getting a bad harness
    Not in the mood
Plus I already have the oem tailgate lock...
I can live without puddle pods knowing my truck wont melt down...hahahahah (not a laughing matter)not saying its the pods just saying until I know it wasn't the pods ..if @MESO wants to state otherwise I'll listen, I have some on there products already

The only thing I can guarantee in life is death and taxes my friend…I was actually in same mindset as you before I pulled the trigger on them but then reality set in and there’s literally thousands of Tacoma’s who have these installed with zero issues, to base my decision not to buy them from 1 bad harness (maybe, there’s zero proof) didn’t make sense to me. I totally get where you’re coming from though so good luck with the speakers. I’m currently shopping for a set myself.

Thanks, brother, I may do the pods. And I hear what you're saying. It's kinda like reviews...
As far as speakers, I did the trail grid pro. Kicker plug in place set along with a Sony 9500 E. S headset
