MESO Total Tail Light Kit

Maybe a stupid question, but how will we know if we need the resistor, will we risk frying something if we plug in without it?

 

If your turn signal does not hyper-flash without the load resistor then you don't need it. If you get hyper-flash, then install the resistor. No damage done either way.

 

LEDs are just diodes and don’t have much resistance at all, not like bulbs. It’ll hyperflash (flash fast) like if a turn signal bulb burned out because your truck thinks that one is out.

 

I'm interested in the stage 2 but have a question. Do you have to have the stage 1 and then upgrade with stage 2 or is it just an upgrade of brightness on the OEM setup? I don't have the stage 1.

 

AFAIK. Stage 2 is a stand-alone product, it's just BRIGHTER (than Stage 1) and requires slight modification to the tail lamp housing. Stage 1 is not required for a Stage 2 install.

 

With the stage two, after performing the cut, does that inherently damage the OEM bulb mount, and prevent it from being returned fully to stock? It is hard to tell from the video.

 

Stage 2 is a different kit, it has upgraded vled switchback bulbs for reverse/turn
It will require modification of the tail light assembly (cutting a bigger hole), but it was so worth it imo

 

Yea unfortunately you can't go back, you would need to buy a new tail light housing if you wanted to go back to stock

 

Yes you’re physically cutting out the stock twist lock location for the oem bulb.

 

Btw I have stage 2 , absolutely no regrets
Well maybe only regret is not buying a sport or 2018/19 housing with the black that I could mod instead of my sr5 chrome dazzle

 

Keep looking mate, they pop up every now and then for cheap-ish.

I’ll have a set of OEM TRD Pro tail lights for sale in the next week or so, if you’re interested. They have the clear over outer lenses with black instead of chrome on the interior.

So vleds has a sale going on right now- it’s a tier based discount based on amount… 25% max

So I went ahead and splurged… v6 red extremes for the s2 brakes and v6 extreme ambers up front. The only thing missing will be the newer v6 extreme switchbacks that @MESO said was in the works. Then I’m done

Once I get them in I’ll have stage 2 brake leds for sale- would be an upgrade for the s1 users! And v6 ambers for the front

The ones I’ll be selling will be completely factory. It’s a bit of a story how I’m ending up with 2 sets of OEM TRD Pro tails (My wife actually listens, but doesn’t pay much attention, so I’ll just leave it at that). It doesn’t look like that big of a deal to whittle out the inside lip of the reverse light hole...could be wrong. I’ll find out soon enough

 

How much did those run ya? I might be interested in doing the same for my S2’s. My retrofits are fully blacked out with a smoked cover over my turn signal too so those ambers would be beneficial for sure.
