Is this a common issue with these? Should we upgrade to a 15A fuse from the get go to avoid the problem?

Honestly I'm not to sure. Fuse must have blown due to pressing the brake for an extended time since I was off roading vs the short brake times from everyday driving.

Have read multiple threads about LED brake lights causing electrical issues in our trucks but not any good solution besides going back to halogen.

Maybe @MESO has seen this before and knows of a solution?

DO NOT upgrade a fuse without knowing what you are doing- bad idea! Fuses are selected to prevent damage or fire, upgrading only defeats the safeguard the engineers designed.

The threads aren’t about brake lights, but rather “turn signals”, which utilizes a flasher module built into the dash. Unfortunately in other designs one can replace the flasher to solve this. However this isn’t possible in this design and can be solved individually with resistors. These essentially turn electrical resistance/load into heat. I have just decomplicated something that is in essence, more complicated.

tl;dr - assumptions and guesses can end badly. Correction of both.

Sorry you experienced an issue. The "BRAKE OVERRIDE MALFUNCTION" is an error built into the factory system. When the truck sees an over load or short in the brake circuit, it throws this code and puts the truck into a limp mode(like what you experienced). HORRIBLE design from Toyota if you ask me. This is NOT limited to my tail light kit. I have seen aftermarket tail lights, all the way to FACTORY bulbs cause this issue. I would not upgrade to a higher amperage fuse. Honestly the factory 10A should be fine as all 4 of the brake LED's together only pull a few amps. I can't tell you for certain what exactly caused the issue as it seems to be working after a fuse swap, but If any bulb is in question I am happy to replace it.

Will be keeping a box of spare fuses in my truck now. Did end up changing the fuse back to a 10A after I checked the tail light harness and connections. No visible damage on harness or loose connection. Tested everything with a multimeter and could not replicate a short or any problems.

Either way, I'll be sticking with the total tail stage 1's.

EDIT: I did notice almost all the mini fuses could be pressed down a bit more to be fully seated. The larger fuses had no problem but I'd say 80% of the mini ones seated a bit more when I pressed them down.

Hello @MESO , I recently installed a set of the V5 turn signals hoping the built in resistors would solve my Total Tail Stage 1 hyper flash in reverse problem. Unfortunately I still get the hyper flash in reverse. I suspect it’s due to me also replacing the front turn signal bulbs with LEDs. Would your resistors listed on your site fix the reverse hyper flashing, or would I need something more since my entire turn signal circuit is now LED?

    Thanks for any help!
    Nate.

I have the total tail stage 1 + v4 side mirror turns and have no hyper flash in reverse. Or what you signaling while in reverse..?

on my 2017 Ive got OEM LED HL's, Meso mirror turns and Stage 1 tails w/ resisitors. No issues with hyper flash. Was stuck in a jam the other day and was concerned with standing on the brake pedal for too long to create too much heat, so I used the E brake as we crept and stopped over and over on the Shure Kill Expressway

The resistor is only for the flashers, it shouldn’t generate any heat from braking.

I guess I more meant the break bulbs themselves. I saw a thread earlier where someone put LEDs in the stock socket and it melted... :bananadead:

    Any concern with that here?

No. That’s seemed like a one off or an unlikely case. I’ve had rear LED’s for 5+ years. Never had an issue

Stage 1 still sold out on the site :(. Question before I purchase when available: will I need resistors for hyper blink on MY ‘21 with factory LED package? TIA

I think each truck is different and you won't know until you put them in. I don't even know if I have hyperflash and I just put them in anyway. Best to buy them and if they are not needed, put them up for sale. They will go quick. I'll have a set if TTS1s available in November once those new tails come out and they will be sold with resistors.

The resistos are easy to install. I have OEM HL upgrade so I put them in anyway
