Nah, something of mine I was messing around with. With a lot of people in and around their taillights with this mod available now was maybe hoping somebody accidentally ran into something similar.

Not due to yours ideally of course.

Tech package has changed during 3rd Gen, but my understanding is that ‘auto’ headlights (light sensor in the dash) was always a ‘Premium’ option.
My understanding is that they are ‘DRL’ (Daytime Running Lights) and only function when no lights are turned on or only parking lights. They will not illuminate when headlights (low or high) are on.

I don't know if this will help you because we have different options on our Taco's - my 2018 TRD Sport WITH tech package does NOT have auto lights. The only time my DRLs are on is if the switch is in the DRL or Parking position, as soon as you switch to the Headlight position, the DRLs dim to about 50%. Your Taco lights should operate the same regardless of the fact you have an extra switch position, Auto.

(edited to reflect DRLs do stay when headlights are on)

I stand corrected. My LED DRL's do indeed stay on when the headlights are on, though dimmed, as you stated. I've never stared into my own headlights before to notice. Every other vehicle I've had, the DRLs have been a dimmed hi-beam - these LED DRLs are new to me. My apologies.

Yea that's my bad, you are correct. It is part of the premium. I keep forgetting which feature is from which as I have both.

That is exactly how it should operate, and the Auto just replaces the DRL switch spot for the trucks equipped with it.

So my problem is that since the fuse popped when working on the taillights, the DRL no longer runs at all when in Auto.

I appreciate the help guys, just curious if anybody might have an idea to get em working again. I have an appt with Toyota tomorrow since it's a new truck and they should take care of it. Just wanted to avoid taking it in if I could, I hate service departments.

And if they asked why it stopped working, I might just conveniently not remember.

Confirmed. Tacos with the auto lights setting, not to be confused with auto brights, will have DRL lit all of the time the truck is on. When the head lights turn on the DRLs dim slightly, maybe lit at 50 or 60%?

I would guess that there is another fuse blown. Toyota should be able to figure it out. Once they do ask them to explain/show you where teh problem was and, please give us an update when it is fixed.

    Good Luck!!

The DRL can be turned off via Entune.
    I turned mine off.

You can also control the sensitivity of when the headlights activate.

Becuase my windshield is fully tintied 15%, it was stuck on all the time until I adjusted that feature in the same setting.

I don't know if you figured this out or not, but I know that on my truck when I turn the DRLs on, they don't actually turn on until I put the truck in gear (M/T). Maybe yours is the same concept. I thought for the longest time that mine weren't working, until I put it in gear and started driving and caught the reflection of them on another car.

Your DRLs should turn on when you release the parking brake.

Indeed they can. The setting has always been on and I went through a couple rounds of turning it on and off and restarting the truck while troubleshooting. No luck there.

I left it running while running into the store a couple times previous to this and they were on while in park. I think that is a manual only thing. Although either way, what actually caused me to notice they weren't on was driving by a window when I was pulling into the gym.

My guess is either the DRL relay in the engine compartment, the dimmer relay also in there, or the ECU got 'stuck' and needs a reset for that setting through the TIS (toyota diagnostic software through the OBD port). I'll be sure to let y'all know!
