I can send and receive phone calls, see my contacts, etc. but when I go to "Messages" the system asks if I want to set it up...I say yes...then it tells me to manipulate messaging on the phone. It never goes past that.

Reading the service manual troubleshooting, it says that one possible issue is that I need to turn on auto message transfer on the phone.

Anyone else have this issue? Is an iPhone capable of message transfer. I would really like to at least hear incoming text messages. If I need to reply....I always pull over to do it.

Yep, I'm in the same boat. Couldn't figure it out, so I said screw it. It'd be too much of a distraction anyways on English roads.

Messaging works fine with my Galaxy S4, it did NOT on my previous phone (Droid Bionic). YMMV

Figured it out. Go to the setup page on the iPhone. Bluetooth....Tacoma connection....press the "i".....turn on "show notifications". It is a Bluetooth setting...not a message setting causing it.
