Every time I start my 2017 TRD Sport, I must set up messaging for my Android phone. Everything else, contacts, favorites, call history works fine, but the messaging settings do not self-start. Anybody know why or what to do to fix it? I've tried unpairing, removing the phone from the system, starting over from scratch - - -everything but disconnecting the battery for a total reboot. Even my dealer is stumped.

How many panels do you have for the home panel display ?
Do you have quick contacts as a home panel display?

I disabled that. It's a pain in the ass and I prefer to text and drive while pounding beers at 25 over the speed limit.

Same here. I liked the Read feature when it was randomly working. The stock replies were useless and too distracting to try to use. So, I've given up and either just wait, or if it is important, ask Google Assistant to read it.

It took me a while to figure out that the mic input on the phone doesn't work if you press it from the phone screen when connected to Entune, but saying Hey Google gets the Assistant going and does everything that I have needed.

Im in the same boat. I've got a Google Pixel, and every single time I start my truck I've got to setup messaging, and often it fails entirely.

I have an iPhone 7 Plus and it won’t display messages at all. With my iPhone 6 Plus it did every time.

That's the problem with tech, it all works in theory. I deal with this on the jets I fly. HUDs and synthetic vision all sound great but in reality it's just meh. Give me an old school bird with round dials and let me do what I do and fly the plane. The same applies to vehicles. Too much automation creates unnecessary distractions. All this TSS BS and sensors and whatnot, it's is dumbing drivers down and removing the ability to drive yourself. Pay attention to what you are doing, see and avoid. It simple.

I'm not sure if there was a recent update, but I was using the messaging app flawlessly for about 10 months, then a few times it recently asked if I wanted to set up messaging. I hit yes, and it just connected (I have an android). But I editted the quick messages to more relevant short ones I'd want to use... and they were all gone.

It's annoying, and I'll just assume the messaging app workign is like finding $5 on the street, nice when it happens but I'm not going to count on it.

I like your theory and prefer less gizmos, but that's not the way life is progressing. I wish I had the $$ to buy my own island and just bomb around in an old CJ.

That said, keyless locks, EFI, ABS, GPS (this one because I have been lost in my own damn neighborhood), auto-dimming mirrors, BT connections, and forward and rear cameras are pretty damn good in my book.

On the touchscreen, in general, the lack of tactile feedback is the biggest problem. Such as the quick messages, there are three scroll panels. It's hard enough to hit the scroll arrow without too much distraction. Like I said, I gave up on it after a few worthless attempts.

The steering wheel controls have been pretty good.

LoL! There are about 1,000 total posts there going back to 2011.

We could probably get 1,000 posts about everyone's favorite spaghetti here on TW.

Ha! Straight up marinara or meat sauce if I'm going basic. I used to make my own sauce, but there are so many great ones out there now, it is more fun to just grab a jar.

Fresh seafood linguine for the rare, once-every-few-years goodness.

I disabled messaging in my truck because if my girlfriend is in the truck and a message pops up it may spell trouble for me
