Ill see what they say. Ive been doing alot of research on P0705. Seems like its out of my mechanical skill. Check engine and trac control light are currently lit on the dash. Truck is still drivable. PRNDS do not show up on the display and the PRNDS no longer lights up blue next to the shifter when selecting gears. All gears still engage and work.

toyota will just want to replace the transmission. they don't do much fixing. take it to a shop that specializes in transmissions if you don't want to be price gouged.

Yep they're just going to tell you it needs a trans. But, apparently he already was about to buy one anyway

    This times a million.

Don't take it to the dealer and stop throwing parts at it. You'd actually save time and money to have a specialist diagnose it.

Agree with above, dealer will charge you $150 or more diagnostic to tell you to replace the transmission.
Before you do that, call the parts counter and have them quote you the cost of a new transmission. Even if you go the dealer route, you’ll want to know that cost going in so you don’t make sticker shock decisions if they quote you $$$$$ for replacement. Hopefully you don’t need a new one but this will prepare you for the worse case.

I dunno, he took it to the dealer on Valentine's Day. That should at least entitle him to a generous application of lube. Probably get out of there for under $10,000

Pretty sure I did this once or twice in a Cherokee XJ. Didn’t have trans issues until it sat for two years at 211k miles (though I think trans was replaced at 150k) but still. I got years out of it after shifting to reverse or park while moving

Yes do cause it does not cost $$$$ to have it looked at. Good luck you might be surprised at what they find. It could be minor or major just keep fingers crossed.

Just make sure the transmission man is going to charge you to look at it before deciding. I made the mistake of not asking years ago and when they told me it needed big $$$ to fix I told them to forget it and I would take the vehicle home for now till I decide what to do. They would not release my vehicle till I paid them 800 for dropping the pan to see that I needed a few worn out nylon bushings, washers etc etc. So I asked them how much to change those bushing and put it back together and they said 1300 so I went for it or would of cost me 800. The tranny lasted forever. just saying

Im figuring it out slowly as i go along. Initially i just thought the transmission as a whole but i guess there are other things that could be wrong. I dont know what the issue is. Just taking it in.

I just talked to a transmission shop on the phone. Told him everything going on with it. Guess he thinks its a wiring problem or computer problem. He actually told me to take it to Toyota. Called a 2nd guy told him everything. Said also thinks its either wiring or computer. We will see.
