Messed up real bad, mixed jumper cables

    Sounds like a lost socket clicking/sliding on a pulley, Bad idler pulley, stuck starter pinion, smoked AC/defrost clutch,,,,,.

    Hopefully it's not a socket dropped/lost into the starter hole,,to be pinballed by the ring gear.

    Stethoscope is a very handy tool.

    1996 White Tacoma, Extended Cab, 2.4 5 speed, 260K miles
    All original, except for 16" Ford Mustang allow wheels, fit an look great. I have replaced the exhaust manifold, radiator and the AC compressor since I bought the truck with 185K miles. Overall it has been very reliable.
    Don't forget to check the fusible link. The fusible link looks like a cable but has a sections that acts like a fuse.
