Some say the plastic cap doesn't get as hot as the aluminum, as if that is good. So it must be that the aluminum cap is dissipating heat faster and slightly cooling the oil within it.

This is why I don’t understand why people make this switch. If you’re worried about the integrity of the composite over time for some reason, just keep a spare.

I called two different Toyota dealer parts departments. Both told me Toyota does not make a metal oil filter housing. I keep seeing posts of an OEM metal filter housing. I also talked to a Toyota mechanic and he said the metal ones are not a genuine Toyota part, they are all an after market part. I’m sticking with the composite filter housings. I haven’t damaged mine but I bought another genuine filter housing from Toyota and will keep it as a spare.

I don't think Toyota dealer parts depts would be selling Amazon fakes.

It becuase they are Lexus parts, made under toyota brand, for their 2GR applications. Lexus, being luxury toyota cars tend to not go through as many cost cutting measures.

I've been heavily interested in the dry sump for 2GR-FE, seeing if it will match up with the -fks, getting the no oil pressure warning flashing while running silver lake, while not that big of a deal since at most the engine is going without oil for 5-10 seconds at maximum, will eventually compound one day, and does make recovery efforts of stuck vehicles which sometimes require being at angles excess of 40° for extended periods of time not ideal.

Why not just an accumulator vs a dry sump? Seems much easier and should work.

I can see the argument that plastic could fail if abused. I do keep a spare. Cheap insurance.

Yeah, that is one of them that I've looked at online, and it's a combination of both, the pan is fortunately and unfortunately nearly perfectly centered on the engine, and with it's small size to fit next to the front differential, at high angles the oil pools at one end of the engine or the other inside the crankcase, plus with only two head drains being used at high angles, even then, they are not completely at the rear or front either. it pools up in the head as well, so with two pockets of oil, the narrow 'throat' for the two piece oil pan where the pickup tube sits, oil can't reach the pickup tube at all.

I never heard of oil accumulators till now, only problem is, same as the above, you will eventually run out of accumulated oil as well when at extreme angles for extended periods of time. Good for short stints of oil starvation, but doesn't help when the oil can't physically reach the pickup tube due to the design of the pan.

All I know is what the parts man at two different dealers told me along with the retired Toyota mechanic. They said Toyota does not make a metal filter housing for my Taco. That’s all the info that I have. I use a Motivx filter tool for the filter housing and torque the housing to 18 ft lbs. And I bought a spare composite housing from Toyota. I see a whole lot of parts for all kinds of equipment online that says OEM and it is not OEM most of time.

Right, its a short term band aid to get you through a quick pinch. If you're not having issues now I'd think of it as a relatively cheap extra layer of protection. Sure a dry sump system would solve it but for the cost of that kit you could get a junkyard motor if you did ever actually grenade it. At the end of the day was just throwing out a suggestion.

Technically, it's not for (not listed) our trucks, so it won't show up in their parts listings, which is what they are going by. Obviously, Toyota does make a metal housing for Lexus which fits perfectly after swapping over the tube. I bought mine from a Toyota dealership.

My 2 cents, I have the Motivx oil filter wrench and have had zero issues with the OEM composite oil filter housing
