Amazon Basics 0-20w synthetic and oem filter. I did my first at 6k and it was BLACK and next one at 10k which was still caramel color. WTF did they use at the factory? They can shove their free oil changes right in their arse!

Good to know. I will look into that for my 911. I have used mobil 1 since day 1 for it.

I changed my oil at a few 100 before 5000. I sent a sample to Blackstone too. I didn't see any flakes such as that in my oil but I had a deep drain pan not the storage kind with like that. BlackStone did say the metal elements were high but not abnormal or any thing to worry about with a new engine. I posted my results on here a few months ago in a thread. Im sure it can be found with some searching I can't repost it right now.

I refilled it with 0w20 Shell Rotella Gas truck if that's important to know. I picked that oil because I was able to score enough to do several oil changes in quart bottles on clearance for $2.29 each. Oil brand isn't really critical anyhow. what is critical is that you change it and the filter regularly and use an Oil that meets the ILSAC GL5 spec Toyota specified and the correct viscosity. Even WallyWorld super tech meets that spec.

Why do people insist on ignoring oil change intervals? The motor HAS to have enough time for everything to seat and wear in. Glitter like particles are expected in a new motor. Id be more concerned if I di not see them. 1000 mile oil change on a new engine is the stupidest thing I ever heard. It is a phony peace of mind. But your truck, your money, you do you!!

Neither one is the King of true synthetic oils, not even close, but both would do just fine in Tacoma's naturally aspirated engines. As for 911, I'd highly recommend Ravenol SSL 0w-40, a true King in the world of the synthetic oils. Pennzoil is too high in NOACK for my taste. It's not cheap but well worth the money if you have a high performance turbo engine. Just my 0.02.

The initial oil change of lets say 1k is just to get out any contaminates that are floating around in thurrrr. Might not be necessary but brings piece of mind to some that's why I change my oil after every drive I do

I'm saying after the first 1000 miles may or may not be more than needed but if that's what you want to do, do it it's your time and money. It should not cause harm.

Agree 100%. The funny part to me is that more frequent oil changes harm no one, are a nice break from day to day work/life, and is something that a future buyer would like seeing when searching for a used Taco to buy.

I opted to do mine at 2k, and will again at 5k, and then will be doing it every 5k thereafter because I live in an area with lots of gravel roads/dust and I know I like to get on the happy pedal a bit harder than most. It's the same reason I plan to follow the severe duty recommendations for replacing coolant, transmission fluid, transfer case fluid, and differential fluids.

Mobil1 has not made a top tier oil since around 2003. Pennzoil Ultra platinum is the top tier oil, 2nd only to Amsoil. PUP at $5. a quart is impossible to beat for the money.

Mobil1 ranks around 5th for synthetics.

I use Pickle Juice and a Cut up roll of paper towels for a filter every 10K miles. Nothing is to good for my truck.
This Oil thread has hope yet.

I'm staying with oil changes every 5-6,000 miles too. I make some short trips often. Sometimes in heavy traffic. I tow a trailer hand full of times a year. Definitely plan to keep the other fluids good.

For fuck's sake people, the poor guy is proud of his new truck and wants to take good care of it. He was asking for advice on the metal flakes not for the oil change interval. No need to be a dick about it.

Fry your pickles in avocado oil. Thanks to the high smoke temp you can crank up the heat for an extra crispy crust. :bananadead:

I welded the drain plug shut on the oil pan and just change the filter nowadays.

Filter holds around 1/2 qt, i figure if I change it every 6 months thats the same as doing an oil change every 3 yrs

Don't laugh but I used to date a girl who drove a beat-to-hell mid 90's T-Bird. While I was trying to score points as the new man in her life I offered to do an oil change on her car for her. Got it up on the ramps, went to pull the drain plug and found it was hopelessly Epoxied in-place. I changed the filter, topped-off the oil and put it back on the ground. A few months later I helped her get into something newer.
