Its the tiny metallic flakes that catch the light differently depending on time of day (Sun direction). Camera can be another reason, every camera produces a slightly different colour.

Yes it does. My guess would be that that the color has a purple metallic in it. I've seen it done on Nissan Altimas at work that look black, but have a red metallic in them that gives it a different look

Wait until you get it in a parking lot at night under the more orange low pressure sodium street lights and it'll blast a very intense purple.

I know in the case of mine, it really does depend on the lighting. In brighter light it definitely appears lighter than they do in the pictures above. (The second picture is mine in late afternoon...)

Honestly that's what kept me away from the blue. It looks great in certain light, but a little purple in other light. I went with white....

I thought it was nautical blue <2014 and blue ribbon 2014+

blue ribbon is suppose to be between nautical blue and speedway blue from what I heard.

    just bring back SWB :)

    that would solve everyones problem.

My last 05 was the indigo ink color and it really did look purple in some lighting situations. I loved the color. In fact the dealer tag for the keys said "purple tacoma" on them when I got it.

Yea I can see it. It's got something to do with the metallic flakes. My Pyrite Mica is the same way - under low light or in grassy conditions it looks greenish and in dirt or intense light it looks straight up brown. I think it's actually a really cool feature of metallic flake paint.

^^ That IS way cool. I think Spruce Mica is the same way and I did a double take on a Base RC 4x4 on my dealer's lot. I came THAT close to trading my truck.

I'm looking at the Blue Ribbon as an option for a new Tacoma and went looking for a Tacoma or Tundra to see in person. One local dealership claimed that the 4runner (the only blue truck/suv on the lot it appeared) was also Blue Ribbon. Silly me I didn't actually confirm it on the sticker when I was there, darn thing was dirty as hell anyways so couldn't get a good idea of the color - but it did look purple in the shade under all that dust. Glad to find discover it wasn't the correct color when I got home.

I have one a love it and have had a ton of comments on the color about how much they like it. Yes it can look slightly purple in certain low lighting but definitely not during the day. I LOVE THE COLOR
