A low-pitched metallic grinding noise can be heard from the car (not sure exactly from where) when I am stopped and in gear (with the brakes on). As soon as I let off the brakes, the noise stops.

The noise is gone when I put it in Park or Neutral.

It's a steady constant noise, not rhythmic at all, and happens when the car comes to a stop. If I'm crawling and hit the brakes, the noise isn't there. Again, only when the car is at a complete stop. Then when I let off the brake, the noise goes away.

    Any ideas?

You need to attempt to determine where the noise is coming from. While its in your driveway, with you holding down the brakes, have someone try to figure out where its coming from (preferably, someone who knows more about cars ).

My 2 wild-ass-guesses would be a bad motor mount (there are 3), or the fan is hitting the shroud.

Ok. The sound is definitely coming from the front passenger side. I also noticed that the sound there when slowly backing into a parking space and turning the wheel. The sound seemed to "travel" with the motion of the steering wheel.
