    Morning,

For those with Method NV's, did you re-use your stock lug nuts or did you have to buy aftermarket? Wheels arrive today and trying to foresee problems at the installer later today.

    Thanks in advance.

You will need new lug nuts.
    M12 x 1.5 with a 60 degree tapered cone seat.

Might want to make sure they're ET lug nuts BTW.

As a side note, a little grease on the shoulder of the lug nuts will go a long way to protect your new wheels. The conical seat on the aluminum wheel is much softer than the hard steel of the lug nut and when you torque them down, the aluminum gets chewed up pretty bad. That's why you see a lot of old rims with the mounting holes beat to shit or out of round.
Make sure to only use a little (light smear). Too much will give you a false torque reading. Any grease will do- white lithium, bearing, etc.. I use anti-seize. Make sure to wipe away and reapply every time you rotate the tires too.

Extended Thread. The studs on our wheels are relatively short and when you mount alloy wheels (which tend to be thicker than stock) the lug nuts are only holding on by a few threads, The ET lugs nuts have an extension that allows more contact with the threads. Just a little piece of mind.

Here's the p/n for a single but you can see the picture where the "extension" is.

Some guys run without and don't report a problem, but do you really want to risk snapping a stud or losing a wheel on a trail? I'm still surprised by some of the guys with highly modded trucks that don't know about this yet.

Seems like a pretty smart and simple idea for a LOT of piece of mind.

    Yes
You do not have to use spline drive or locking lug nuts you just need to make sure that you get conical extended thread lug nuts

    Cone Shaped Extended Thread

    Se3nZQw.jpg

Ignore the measurements. This just shows how it is shaped.

The tapered shoulder is good for Method NVs because it helps center the lug in the hole in the rim. Tacomas are Hub Centric, but the rims are not. The conical lug nuts help prevent the rim from wobbling and therefore prevent vibration on the road.

I originally had the factory lug nuts on my Method NVs. Lots of steering wheel wobble.

you see that 0.315" downward from the conical part? is that important? i see on Amazon alot of conical lug nuts without that. like it ends at the conical area.. would that work?

Okay so where can i find these ET lugs? I was looking on 4wheel parts.com and then ended up goin to autozone. I didn't see any with the ET on 4wheel's site so I just got the kind that ends with cone. They seem to work but I do feel uneasy about how they're seated in the cone of the wheel's lug bores.
