Was just wondering if anybody has had a problem removing the center caps off of Method standard wheels. I'm sitting in the waiting room of America's Tires and I've got three techs trying to figure out how to remove them to balance my tires. You would think they would know because I bought them there. Mind you this isn't a rant because I was also in there with them and couldn't figure it out either. Any body have any ideas?

This is stock pic from the internet as I don't have pics of the backside of the rim. They were able to remove three phillips screws from the back of the center cap to remove the top half of the cap, but not the entire thing.

have they tried to pull out the allen screws on the front? ive seen some wheel caps come off that way, theres a chance that not all the allen screws are attaching the cap to the rim. sometimes there are only two holding it on.

is there a chance that the center cap is just secured in the bore really good and it just needs a good hard tap to get it out?

They said they were fake/plastic ones just for looks. They wound up static balancing them. They also found over four ounces of weights from the original installation on one of the rims. The tech said that was nuts. When he redid it, it only needed about an ounce.

They smacked it pretty hard with a rubber mallet and a thick piece of rubber on top and it didn't work. Heck, even I took a whack at it.

I have those and the caps should just push through to the hub side. Nothing holding them in other than friction.

weird, well glad you got it balanced after all. I worked at a Goodyear years ago and we had a customer come in with some 24" rims and he had almost a pound of weights on one of his rims. the shop that did it before had no clue what they were doing. they had up to 4 layers of weights stacked up on each other. all we did was break the bead and rotate the tire 180 and balanced it no problem.

Dude, take the wheel completely off. There nothing holding it in place. Just push it through the back side.

We smacked it pretty hard quite a few times. At least we did till I asked if they had any replacement caps. The minute he said no that was it.

The wheel was off, that's just it. He whacked it, I whacked it. We whacked the crap out of it.

Okay, this is starting to sound pretty weird now...
