Heco en Mexico. Dang it!!!!! Dumb Mother #$%^ERS. Man that ticks me off. I liked the Toyotas that started with JTXXXXX. "real toyotas". what we have is a economicly marketed widget. Not a 1980's Turbo supra built with pride. Man I miss my early 90's 4runner. What I'd give for a 1995 Xcab, 5spd 4x4. Or my old 1985 P type 5spd Supra, or our 1990 Targa Top MK3 Turbo Supra. Aw.... cry. I miss old toyotas.

At Toyota!!!!! They put the plant there. Wonder why our US Dollar aint worth a flying fuck around the world... It's all going OUT. We consume, it's like we don't do shit here. I really wish Ford would shrink the F150 down, make a few tweeks and build it IN THE USA.

'09 base model access cab 4.0L V6 4x4 here (bought and driven mostly in Canada)... most people that tell me I should have bought domestic don't know it was built in California. I have the 5... VIN. It's not big 3, but it's also not built in Mexico like many big 3 vehicles. Regardless of where it was built, Toyota trucks are known worldwide for reliability and quiality. And the fact that most people buy any vehicle in their local area, they are supporting their LOCAL economies, which is just as important when you live in that area.

I know I've said this before, but I'll say it again... SUPPOSEDLY, Mexican built Tacomas are much more hand-assembled compared to NUMMI. They don't have the automation NUMMI does.

Also, the Mexico plant received an award from JD Power & Associates for their quality. I think this speaks volumes.

    http://www.jdpower.com/corporate/news/releases/pressrelease.aspx?id=2008063

    Assembly Plant Awards
The Mercedes-Benz assembly plant in Sindelfingen, Germany, receives the Platinum Plant Quality Award for producing vehicles yielding the fewest defects and malfunctions. Averaging just 33 PP100, the plant produces the Mercedes-Benz CL-Class, CLS-Class, E-Class Sedan, E-Class Wagon and S-Class. Plant awards are based solely on defect and malfunction counts.

Among North and South American plants, the Toyota plant in Baja California, Mexico, which produces the Toyota Tacoma, achieves the Gold Plant Quality Award.

In the Asia Pacific region, Toyota’s Fujimatsu, Japan, plant, which produces the Toyota Prius, receives the Gold Plant Quality Award.

The 2008 Initial Quality Study is based on responses from more than 81,500 purchasers and lessees of new 2008 model-year cars and trucks surveyed after 90 days of ownership. The study is based on a 228-question battery designed to provide manufacturers with information to facilitate problem determination and drive product improvement. The study was fielded between February and April 2008.

Reading thru the replies here, I am noticing a trend:

MOST Access Cabs are built at NUMMI.
MOST Double Cabs are built in Mexico.

I wonder if the exceptions have to do with long bed/short bed, or 2WD vs 4WD options.

Jason, would you (or anybody else) mind if I created a new poll with more options?
