Mexico. I did some research about the plant down there just because that kind of stuff interests me.

A lot of the workers there came from a welding plant that used to be in Tijuana. There is also a lot less automation down there and they rely on good old fashioned human power to do much of what is done by robots here in the states/Japan.

I think, perhaps, I may have started that thread that got out of hand a while back and at the time, I was simply posting to see what people thoughts were. I was only basing my question on the problems BMW had with their plant in South Africa. Not that it had any problems because of the "race" of people but because it was such a different culture.

One of the biggest problems Toyota had with their Tacoma plant in Mexico was that the culture down there isn't used to "group think". Based on the article, they indicated that it is relatively common for people to not seek help when there is a problem. They take pride on trying to resolve their own problems. Which obviously doesn't work on an assembly line. Something they had/and did have to get past.

Anyway. No difference in quality. Built with the same parts and the same philosophy as all other Toyotas. I remember reading that only some of the 4x4 quad cabs are built down there - but not 100% sure. Another reason they have a plant down there, as the article mentioned, is that in order to sell vehicles in Mexico a certain percent of them have to be built locally.

    Anyway.

    Cheers.

I just thought I'd point out that every Mexican-made Taco is a Double Cab so far. Does anyone have a Tacoma that was built in Mexico that is not a double cab? I also noticed that of the 11 people who posted they have a double cab that was made in the U.S., only one of them was built in 2009.

I think where the truck was built has more to do with cab configuration than options.

It seems that all regular and access cabs are be built in the U.S. The lions share of double cabs are built in Mexico, with Fremont perhaps picking up the balance of remaining demand. Of the 21 2009 DC's that have been posted, 20 have been built in Mexico vs. 1 built in the U.S.
