I doubt it. Aisin-Seiki has a North American division and several plants in the U.S. and Mexico. Automatic transmissions are made in North Carolina and I'm pretty certain manuals are made in Indiana.

I don't think Aisin makes the manual transmission. Only the auto.

I just remember seeing "Thailand" on the country of origin sticker of a manual I drove. I remember thinking that was odd.

The RA60 is an Aisin AY6.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aisin_AY_transmission

Not sure if the RC62 in the 3rd gen is still, so it could be something else or as @TacoJonn is mentioning something else Toyota uses in Thailand. But since Aisin-Seiki has been making Toyota truck sticks (I know they made the W-series & G-series) for decades I wouldn't bet against it.

it's a redesigned manual. Not the same manual as the gen 2.

I know it is, the RC62 has 4th at 1:1 and 5th and 6th are OD like the RA60 should have been (it has 5th at 1:1 and only 6th is OD). I'm watching for someone parting out a 3rd gen to get one. ;-) The RA60 has kind of funky ratios between 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th gears. It's not terrible but I wish 6th was taller to bring the RPMs down on the highway and 4th was the 1:1 like 5 speeds used to be. OTOH, all the ratios are all lower so it's obviously more of a truck transmission than a highway warrior, so I dunno.

Kind of reminds me of why Fender USA Strats go for more than the mexican ones.

Except Ford is keeping the Focus and Fusion plant open by building the Ranger and Bronco there. In fact they are rebuilding their entire head office and operations center in the Detroit area which, between the two projects, will add a ton of jobs...

But good job believing whatever BS makes you feel better about Toyota at night lol. Ford being played off as leaving to Mexico is a political move and not a reality.

It's no rumor that Ford revamped their pay scale and UAW contracts in the early to mid 2000's and that GM + Chrysler followed suit a few years later when the crash forced them too...

However Toyota went through a similar process. It's not all roses for either company.

In truth the most accurate statement I've heard is that the automakers, and that's everyone, are moving the production of lower margin vehicles to Mexico and expanding the plants for the larger demand higher margin trucks and CUV's in the USA. It makes sense, build the stuff with no margin where you can get cheaper labor and the stuff where you can make bank where there are higher wages. However that can be spun about a million ways depending on what point someone thinks they can make.

I'm sure in Toyota's world the split makes sense from some financial point of view and isn't hurting quality since a pile of the 2nd gens were made there without any issues (trust me, people have tried to tie 2nd gen issues to the plants and it never worked out)

For whatever it's worth my Tacoma is one of the rare Mexican Tacoma's that made its way to Canada. The only issue I had was the common windshield whistling and the dealer was able to fix that easily. Mechanically my truck has been great, especially compared to the other Tacoma's I know which seem to be having drive-line issues I have yet to have. In all likelihood it's probably more likely that problems are luck of the draw rather than where your Tacoma is made.
