I bought a sport bumper for my MGM 15 OR. It looks completely different from the MGM on the truck, even though the paint codes are the same. It happens.

It's definitely there. The bumper is more more orange than the rest of the car. I just took this photo and noticed that this side of the bumper doesn't align up correctly compared to the other side. Also, there was a "hold up" in delivery when it came off the train for a few days that pushed the delivery date back...

If the car was painted at the same time, primered, sprayed and clear coated, it shouldn't matter whether or not it's plastic or not. Ever get into a front or rear accident? A proper blend job will not yield in multiple colors.

    It does matter.

    I wasn't arguing.

I guess, it would matter if all infernos have a slightly mismatched front bumper if toyota paints their bumpers separately from the rest of the vehicle. I'll see if any other inferno owners have the same issue.

.. or if plastic is a completely different substrate than steel and uses different primer, different paint mix, different or incorrect surface prep resulting in static build up and therefore creating a noticeably different appearance with metallic paints than the rest of the car since the metallic flakes are under the influence of static.

There's a lot of possible reasons why it matters.

Painting is more complex than you're imagining that it is. I don't have a clue how Toyota does their paint work, but there are variables that come into play. It's not like spraying water and making everything equally wet.

Finally made my way back into a Tacoma and back on this site. It's a shame to see so many problems with the new trucks and a shame that people are so rude to each other now on this website.

Fully agree man. Ball busting is one thing, but just being a condescending twat is another. Seems like every other thread turns into a pissing match. People really need to get the fuck over themselves these days.

Any decent paint man can blend the new paint to match the old. Any dealership body shop should be have a painter that can blend. Take it back and have then re-do it. When you trade it, it will cost you if it does not match. Hopefully your carfax didn't get dinged. You would be surprised what doesn't show up on a car fax. I wrecked a pickup pulling a trailer and bent the frame. They straightened it out. When I traded it in, the carfax was clean.

The mismatched paint is really noticeable right after I washed and waxed it.

So just to kind of fill you all in I finally heard from the regional rep and he offered me $1000 in accessories or service. I have since called called corporate and have opened a case I'll let you all know what happens.

I laugh at the people who complain on color difference between metal parts and plastic parts. Painting metal and plastic always results in different shades. Some colors are just more noticeable.

I should have been more clear, I meant plastics vs steel, in your case I can't comment, though logic dictates that's not "normal"

My '14 SSM had a mismatched bed. It turned out after looking around a lot of 2nd gens SSM had mismatched beds and rears doors. It bugged me to no end thinking down the road when I was trying it someone would think I had body work done. I even noticed it in some of the early 3rd gens.

Plastic parts will look different and I don't really see that as a problem that can be avoided.

Dang ok. Your previous photos weren't convincing but that one photo did it for me. What ended up happening?
