Maybe there is overlap from the end of one line of paint in the factory and the start of another?

Quick, everyone scour the MGM thread!

You are half right. The top of the bottom cub does have a top lighter shade so it really doesn't matter what the two background colors are, the white shading at the top messes with your eyes regardless.

I've never noticed it in real life though.
It appears to look similar to the OP.
I'll have to take a closer look at it tomorrow in the sunlight, but I think it's probably just lighting and angles.

Yes, it's lighting and angles that show a subpar paint job. That's the point.

I've seen a lot of MGMs where this is noticeable, mine included, although yours seems pretty extreme.

Lexus probably less than the Kia but the people at Vascor that inspect send Lexus to the shop for buffing and touch up on a weekly basis. The 8-9 $ an hour temp unloaders that unchock and drive these off the trucks do more damage to vehicles than while in transit I am told.

Just some dumb regular crap everyone else has
OP, as I stated earlier, unfortunately, this is a known issue with a few MGM owners, me being one of them. Mine looks worse on the passenger side too, however, it's still slightly noticeable on the drivers side - and only at certain angles in the bright sunlight. Yours looks to be on the extreme side of "dafuq". A few people mentioned that it's probably the way the metallic is sprayed on at the factory, I agree with this. If for some strange reason the doors are painted at a different angle, or the gun is spraying the each door at a slightly different angle, then the metallic could throw off the color in sunlight. I'm sure the color is exact from front to back, but the metallic looks different at different angles in different light. I highly doubt your truck was damaged and repainted, if that's the case, then a lot of MGM owners have the same damage and same issue, I doubt it. If a dealer sells it as a new new truck and they repaired it without telling you, I think they'd be up shit's creek if someone found out, JMO. The dealer will probably not be able to do anything, and if they did, would you want them to repaint it? They might do more harm then good. Is this issue acceptable, fuq no. I'm just not sure your a dealer will do anything, maybe they will get Toyota corporate involved. Keep us posted, in the mean time, do some searches on here and you'll see that you are not alone. I just deal with it (again, it's not acceptable but I don't want it repainted by db) and keep it dirty.

Ya, you think it looks bad now? Wait til your dealers body shop gets a hold of it. I'd "John Lennon" that truck and "let it be".

Yea but they aren't doing 7k worth of touch ups or repainting the whole side of a vehicle.

You mean drive them off the rail cars? Nobody drives the vehicles off the trucks but the truck drivers. But on that note the rail unload companies employees are not generally temp workers. They are full time employees that usually get paid per unit. That usually equates to $15-17 per hour. You don't want temp workers doing that job.

My 2008 Desert Sand Mica has the same paint issue, only visible at certain angles and lighting. I bought it used, though hesitated, assuming it had been repainted. A thorough background check for wrecks, and inspection of the paint beneath seals, showed no signs of repaint. Mine splits at the front and rear doors on both sides only. It gives you the impression that the 2 halves are painted using different paint and/or equipment. It must be a paint process issue that Toyota can't consistently control. Maybe it's the spray angle using a different set of sprayers (metallics can be tricky). Hopefully they pull from the same paint batch.

I am not here to dispute your word, but there are temps hired to start at 8-9 an hour..They are not paid by the unit.My info on the vehicle damage is coming from a former Vascor employee.Midtex does not pay Vascor, the car auto manufactures do.There is an ad that is placed every month or so from a local hiring agency that wants drivers to unload vehicles at Midtex starting wage is 8-9 an hour. The turn over is very high.I didnt say every week there is 7k damage to vehicles repaired, but I know for a fact that happens, but not from driving them off the rail cars. The temps can be full time if they pass the probation period, fact is most dont last. Now back back to the OP's issues.
