Mice Nest under Intake Manifold

Apparently mice moved into my engine bay over the weekend. They tried to make a nest in the intake and chewed through my filter. Ultimately it looks like they decided my intake manifold area was the best.

I've read the threads about the knock sensors under there. How worried should I be that mice ate some wires? I'm throwing no codes. I don't see any eaten wires. I don't even see any mice.

sounds like you have done all you can for now unless a code pops up.

i live in a rural area and park outside under an open outbuilding. we have had rodent issues on another vehicle, but so far none on the taco.

i leave my hood up every night, prop a stick under the manifold cover (that is a perfect place for vermin to call home), and leave a bright LED work light shining underneath and on the back of the firewall. the bright light deters them.

 

Yea. I like the light idea a lot.

I do have to bring my truck in for service and might just have them take a look. My insurance agent is a friend and he said I'd be covered worst case.

 

Some will find humor in this but my dogs can smell the tail so I am sure the mice can too. I park in barn and no mouse turds in engine bay Best of all it was free

Very common to see them in the air filter, and usually nuts/dog food below it.

Usually the nest under the intake requires it to sit more. I usually find them cooked on most cars that they try to nest on top of the engine.

It's a worry but not much you can do except make sure there's no food for them near by.

 

Lots of posts on here regarding rodent damage. I would be taking a keen interest in prevention if I ever found any signs. They can cause lots of damage. I have no time for vermin. It would be all out war!

I had the little bastards chew the knock sensor wires on mine which I drive EVERY day! Just under a grand to fix. They made a mess out of my air filter as well. This truck does not sit, so no one is safe!
Peppermint pouches seems to be working for now.

 

I've tried the peppermint oil with unimpressive results. I've been using one of these in my Tacoma and my son has one in his car. 3 months and we haven't had any more signs of rodents in our engine bays.

I put one of those in last week just in case.

 

These actually work. I put one in my Ranger in Fall of '21 and the lil' bastards quit nesting on the intake manifold.

Get some feral cats and give them a job. They're killing machines and have solved my vermin issues completely. Now I've got large vermin that poop in my plants, but it's better than small ones in the house/cars.

 

Right now I got some dryer sheets in the engine. Can't drive until I get a new air filter, so I'll leave them in there.

Our one neighbor had feral cats and then the other neighbor snitched on him. So that doesn't help.
