Michelin LTX A/T2 or LTX M/S2

    He's right. It's an excellent decision if you don't do any offroading and mainly city. You'll get at least 100k on those tires, provided you take care of them

    You are right, the M/S weren't that great in snow, but the M/S2 are actually better in snow than the A/T2 tires now. Yes, I got a 'deal' on the LTs. 7 dollars a tire to be exact...but...for what I do, I'd rather have the P because my truck is more of a daily driver for me than a truck. I do use it as a truck, but its also my daily driver and the Ps ride much nicer than the LTs, plus i dont pull anything, and when I haul stuff...its normally not heavy, just bulky. I will let you all know how they handle in the ever so non forgiving PA winters.

    If you're doing City and or Highway driving with little likelihood of deep snow, mud or even semi serious off roading then yes, the MS2 is your boy. For the money you cannot find a better handling tire that will last longer or ride as nice.

    And if you can, bite my ass for proving me wrong.

    haha I meant no disrespect by that, i do almost no off-roading, but do a considerable amount of winter driving. If you go to tirerack.com, check out their ratings for tires. They are pretty good with their research. The MS/2s are rated higher for winter driving than the AT/2s. The MS/2s have a heck of a lot more sipes which not help immensily in wet situations, but also in snow and ice. I'm not saying Im going to go tanking in 6 feet of snow, but I've driven in a little over 2 before, and from the looks of these tires, and what i've read about them, I shouldnt have any problem what-so-ever with them, but ill definately keep you all posted once winter rolls around.

    Note: These results are for the P265/75/16 series, though I'd imagine most of it would be the same across the board.

    i didnt read all the replys but the LTX M/S2 is built with GREEN X technology that helps with fuel economy. the 70K milage warranty is a nice piece of mind. the 3D active sipes really grip supprisingly well. if your doing less than 20% off-roading than just go with the LTX M/S2s. as a 11 year Michelin Dealer just my 2 cents

    Yeah, I read about that Green X thing. Its only posted on the LT tires though. I guess the P tires don't have it? but, just be the shear lesser weight, the P tires should do better fuel economy wise as opposed to the LT. Though I'm sure those LT have a much higher mpg than most LT tires.

    I dunno how much I trust those numbers. You've probably seen the tires in person too, but from my own perspective, I honestly cannot see the AT2 being poorer in snow than the MS2. Not calling you a liar but it's like trying to tell me a brick is lighter than a feather.

    Eh...either way you went Michelin which is a kick ass tire for what they are designed to do. (I wish they made an MT cause I'm sure it would kick ass.)

    And I do mean one that is available to the public.

    haha yeah, an MT would be pretty awesome. I honestly have no idea how the tires will handle in the winter, i've yet to experience it. I did a LOT of research about it before I bought them. I even had some guys from TW who told me the AT/2s were horrible in snow, but I've also heard the same about M/Ss. No one has really said yay or nah to the M/S2s, but they are a new tire. The tire people I was conversing with, was explaining how the new sipe designs work and why they are so much more effective in the snow (blah blah blah). He also did not know I already had my mind made up on them and was going to purchase them regardless. I would love for these tires to be awesome in the snow, it'll save me about 500 bucks on purchasing winter tires, but, if they suck ins now, no biggie, I already came to terms with purchasing winter tires. I even have them picked out already lol. I will definately let you all know how they hand in light snow, deep snow, ice, slush, freezing rain, and a nasty mixture of all the above.

    Nice thread, answered all of my questions about AT2 vs MS2. I had first thought about getting duratracs, but then I thought about how little off-roading I do (just a few dirt roads in the winter, but we have a Jeep to do that with if need be) and decided to look at Michelins. Looks like I'll be getting M/S2's in P265/70/17 very soon.

    Ok so update, just got back from getting the Ps on. SO MUCH BETTER! its like driving a whole new truck. The difference is RIDICULOUS. I was hoping for a little better, but definately not this much better. There was NO vibrations in my steering wheel. It was soooooo much nicer. Very happy with my purchase!

    They litterally look like the exact same tire. The only difference visual wise, is instead of the outside saying LT265/75/16, it now says P265/75/16. If you really want I can go outside tomorrow and take new pics? The LTs are made with a heavier denser rubber (thats how it was explained to me today anyway), but they look identical, same size, same tread, etc.

    Love those wheels. I was thinking that those wheels would not look all that great with "street" tires, and need more aggressive tires to compliment the FJ wheels.

    But I was pleasantly surprised when you posted pics.
