Ok The LTX M/S2 Has a New silica tread compounds. Only this tire and the Latt Tour has Silica and this tire has a new kind of silica.
The M/S2 has 3-D Active Sipes that locks into place to enhance support and grip resulting in better acceleration and control in snow.
The LTX A/T2 does not have Silica or sipes. All the LTX tires have Max Touch Construction and Comfort Control Technology. The M/S2 with the 70k warranty does just as good off road and in mud and you get more key technologies in the M/S2. I have driven off road and in wet roads in all LTX tires. And BFG some BFG tires. The M/S2 is the way to go.

    Matt,
WOW! I see that Discount Tire anger in you. People are always are walking into your stores and never get greeted right away and are talked down to. You do not do alignments witch according to the RMA is part of tire maintenance. You have no ASE experts use.
Now I just came across this page and without reading 7 pages I for once used my time and helped someone online. Only46ersfan also a Michelin dealer said some great things but never talked about silica. Or even the new Silica the Latt tour does not have. I went back and read all 7 pages and I heard the M/S2 has "more sipes" alot. The M/S2 does not have sipes at all.
Also these new 3-d active sipes are much longer then any other full death sipes.
    X Green is only on 4 LT tires. The LT235/85R16 E,LT265/75R16 E BSW and ORWL, LT265/70R17 E,LT285/70R17 D, and LT275/70R18 E.
I gave a much better answer then you. I am a Michelin Dealer.
I say it is sad when customers come in our many shops with alignment wear from tires they got at Discount Tire. The sales men never even said a word to the customer to get a alignment.
How could they? They are not front end experts!

Discount Tires charges $14.99 to install tires we charge $10.
We are a true local independent tire shop that is a authorized Michelin dealer.
Matt go online and get some training online on the Michelin website sounds like you need it.
You (Discount Tire) will put the wrong load range and speed rating on customers cars all the time because if they came in your store your policy is to put the same size they have now on even if it is wrong.
I think you should look up every car to see the proper tire size, load index, and speed rating. This info is on the Tire placement card on most cars, or there are Tire Guides with this info. Hey Matt go buy a Tire Guide and ask Michelin for some training on there tires.
    Matt,
Take a pill and have a drink sounds like you need one.

I'm not going to sit here and argue with you. First of all, I have completed ALL michelin online training, and even been to Michelin's US Headquarters on Bernie Krauss' dime. Have you been? Have you been on every Michelin ride and drive offered in the last 3 years?Second, you may charge $10 per tire, but are you going to rotate and repair their flats using an RMA patch to all your customer's vehicles? Are you going to rotate and balance all customers who purchased tires from you, as well as give them a pro-rated road hazard to use at every location nationwide? Third, you know nothing about me or the Discount Tire that I work at. Sounds like either the stores in the San Diego market are going to put you out of business, or you think that your single backhanded comment towards me and the company I represent is going to change the general consensus towards my company. Do you even know how to work on or diagnose TPMS issues? Fourth, this is not a competition. The point of this section is to help as many people as possible, and by you copy and pasting information off a Michelin phamplet proves nothing. If you want to have an intelligent conversation via PM, I will be more than happy to do so. Otherwise, I don't bash whomever you work for (or did work for, whatever the case may be), so please don't bash mine.

"Very true, think I've said that all once or twice in this thread and maybe a few others" YOUR WORDS THAT ARE RUDE!
I helped someone and you respond with a little rude typing.

Just to be clear I have been to Michelin ride and drives, Pirelli ride and drives, Bridgestone ride and drives, Goodyear and Dunlop training. I have online and in person Michelin, Hankook, and Goodyear training.
I learned in the ARMY just because you went threw training does not mean you are the best. I have been to the same training however I believe I have alot more info on tires and service than anyone I have ever meet yet.
Every trainer says I was the best they ever seen. Michelin training on the LTX tires in RENO I was told that I was the best they have ever seen.
BTW we do use only RMA patch stem combo using the method on the RMA website. We also have nationwide free replacement road hazard warrany not prorated. Nationwide warranty on all parts and service also.
Our road hazard is only 10% of the tire cost.
Lifetime free tire rotations, flat repairs, and re balancing for free for life.
FREE ALIGNMENT CHECK, FREE BRAKE INSPECTION for everyone. I noticed you had no words for ALIGNMENTS. The biggest reason we are taking market share away from your company. We will always charge less for the same tire and charge less to install that tire than Discount Tire.
OUR CUSTOMERS SUPPORT THERE LOCAL ECONOMY can't say that about you with a corp office in AZ!
I can't count how many broken studs I have fixed for free for Discount Tire in exchange they send alignments my way. Why can't you fix what you have broken on a customers car?
NO ASE people thats why. Just alot of part timers at Discount. Because they do not like to pay benefits. Just go into any store and ask how many of those people working are part time. Shame on you Discount Tire for not supporting your workers. Corp America at it's best.

Bottom line here is I spent a few minutes answering someones question and you come out right away upset when you are no longer the expert on the subject. I am sure you know alot about tires and Discount has training however does not give you the right to think you are the Tire Master or something. Try running your own tire and service stores where you are creating everything from nothing and having to do advertising also. I know your corp office in AZ handles all that for you.
You have a cookie cutter job. Corp lays out your job for you. No hard feelings here I think you should not come out to other people in the other postings and not be so rude to them also.

Four Wheeler magazine (December 2010) has a article on the LTX-MS2

    very informative article.

"...When asked about the LTX MS2 capabilites in snow, Product Catagory Manager bryan Gartman responded, "It's not being marketed as a snow tire, but it sigificantly out performs the previous generation tire in snowy conditions. It has many of the attributes of a snow tire in its tread design, but the silica in the tread compound works against it a little in extreme cold temps. We had to choose a bad weather venue to idealize the compound for rain or ice. We chose rain..."

Also tirerack.com has a short piece in their blog: http://blog.tirerack.com/blog/snow-...all-season-tires-in-snow-for-light-truckssuvs They mention the LTX-MS2 as a recomended option to get you through the white stuff.

Discount always told me (without me asking for the info) the recommended tire speed and load rating and other info for my truck and suv, and they match costco prices. But I did opt to go with a bigger tire and wheel pkg for my truck. 15'' american eagle wheels and 31 10.5 Michelin tires.(fyi it is a factory option) The sales guy pulled up a program that showed me everything I needed to know about what Toyota recommended and if the tire and wheel pkg would affect my spedo and rpm's.
    Great service!
Thats why I went back to get more tires on both of my 4x4's!!!
LTX M/S2s on both!!! still look like new 40k miles on toyota and 30k on xterra

Not looking to argue but thats my experience with tires.

For what its worth, My son just put some tires on his Jeep Cherokee and I will be ordering a set just like em when I get new tires. They are called Federal Couragia. You could buy two sets of FC tires for the money spent on Michelin.

I live in PA also. I'm anxious to see how my Tacoma does on the MS2's this year. I just worry about the ice storms we get here.....without studs or chains I don't think there is any tire that could be reliable on PennDot Icy Roads......

    wow...SDTirePro...lay off the riods...

This thread was not started to cause arguments, it was meant to be informative to the general public. Archangel has been NOTHING but helpful. Tacomaworld is not meant to bash others, or whatever company they work for. Please, if you have such comments you'd like to take up with people, send them a personal message.

And on a note above...one of your earlier posts was talking about the 3D active sipes that the M/S2s have...then later...you said that they M/S2s have no sipes... 3D active sipes, are in fact sipes. They are a new more functional sipe, hence the word sipe in the name.

We aren't in some competition to see who can give better answers than the other...all answers are appriciated, but rudeness wont be tolerated. Looking back, I'm pretty sure Archangel was just saying he was agreeing with you, hence his responce of 'very true'. Then he was pointing out, that some of the information you said was previously posted in this thread, which is great, alot of people dont always read every post in a thread, they just read the end.

And just an update for those of your central PAs like myself, these tires a freaking champs in wet weather. I drove through a freakin monsoon with huge puddles on I-80 and I-81. I not only didn't hydroplane one bit, but it felt like I was on bone dry ground. I was going 70 in a 65, but my speed-o is off by about 5, so it was more like 65. Can't wait till it starts snowing so I can try them out ^_^

Yes I agree its a wet weather champ, on my last 4x4 I had bridgestone revos they were real good in wet, but these are so much better.

As far as winter well see how it goes. One guy at work has the original M/S tires on his honda ridgeline he likes them said they are fine in winter, he just leves it in AWD when there is snow on the roads, and its all good, even during the back to back snow poundings we got last winter.

Thanks for all the good info, I'll be putting M/S2's on my new Taco soon. Discount only wants to give me $40 each for the stock Dunflops, (with 1K miles on them!), but that's the only thing holding me back.

They are currently on back order nationwide, with no sign of that letting up. I may try Goodyear Forterras instead.
