Michelin LTX M/S Tires

Can anyone give me feedback about these tires? How do they compare to the OEM Dunlops.

I know that most owners complain that the OEMs are pure crap but I did get 60K from the original set and now it is time to upgrade.

My fuel mileage averaged 21 MPG with a V6 double cab and a light foot on the gas. I expect that may drop a bit with the M/S tires but I could be way off base on that idea too.

How do they ride? Are they noisy? Stuff like that would be helpful.

I like mine. I expect long life and bust out almost 24 mpg on the highway with my 4.0. They are quiet from what I can tell.

 

i have ltx/ms on my land cruiser and have had them on my previous tundras. great tires. smooth. quiet, and long tread life. don't know about snow performance but not much of an issue in texas. Not great off road but adequate. When the time comes they are what i will replace the original tires on the tacoma with.

 

I had those tires on my old 4runner. Like the others smooth quiet, rode like a Cadillac. Got 80k on my first set. Sold the 4 runner with 130,ooo miles on it with the second set and they were still in great shape. Sold the truck to my friend who still has the same tires on it. Those are the best tires I have ever had for the road period. I think it was one of the best trucks Toyota ever put out. 2001 4runner sr5. 2nd gen Tacoma is next best. sorry

 

I really like my LTX/MS2 tires. The most off roading I do is unimproved roads, fire roads, dirt roads, and trips to the hunting camps, along with a once a year fishing trip to Cape Lookout NC (beach driving). These tires gone through all 4 season here in South East Pennsylvania just fine.

Don't do much off roading
Nice ride on the road
Quiet and smooth, unlike most Jeeps
7k miles and 1st rotation
Very happy with 'em

Just make sure you are getting the M/S 2, not the older M/S. From what I've read michelin did some improving on the design and the 2's are a much better tire.

I had a set on my previous truck for approximately 3 weeks. These were probably the worst tires I have ever put on a truck. To me they seemed like they "floated" a lot. In that I mean they seemed to have a lot of side role which gave very little stability to the truck when cornering. I took them back to the tire dealer and he understood my complaints and said he has heard that a lot out of those tires. I ended up with a set of BFG's and loved them. Just mt 2 cents.....

 

Not sure what to say about that other than I had the exact opposite experience. I went from toyo open country at's to the michelin and found I have a much better ride and handling.

 

Disagree.
I had the old style LTX M/S and they were excellent.
Traction, wear, smooth quiet ride.
Read TireRack feedback on them.
Best tire in their class by a wide margin.

 

MS2's here and I've put over 30k on mine. An improvement over the stock tires.

 

Profile and Tire Pressure Maybe?
High Sidewall, Low Pressure will tend to Roll.
Only thing I could think would cause that.

i just had the M/S2's installed. UNBELIEVEABLE improvement over the stock dunlaps on snowpacked city streets and wet pavement. my anti-lock breaks were kicking in constantly with the dunlaps- not any more! i'm very happy with the new michelin's. on the dry interstate, i didn't notice much different- maybe slightly quieter, but not much different. on dry city streets, i feel like they just grab quite a bit better. i initially thought that maybe my new double cab was just a lot heavier than my '98 tacoma and it didn't drive as well on snow/wet pavement. not the case- now it drives like a tacoma should drive!

 

I replaced my stock tires with M/S2's at 20 miles.

 

By far, the best truck/suv tire money can buy. Period. They are a little more expensive than the OEM Dunlops but well worth it. The ride quality, quietness, and tire life is second to none. I would not have any other tire on my Tacoma. Just my opinion.
