Michelin LTX ms2... will I regret it?

Will I regret buying these LTX MS2 highway tires?

    I have seen a few guys run the 10 ply AT2s out here on their work trucks, running them on freshly built steep roads made of shot rock and they seem to do great. Cant say I have seen anyone with the m/s out on those roads though.

    Just put Toyo AT2's on in 10 ply rating 265/70R17 and am very happy so far. They ride a bit rougher, but it's not too bad. I'm in the same situation, I put on 50K kms a year and my work is pretty remote and over gravel roads with very sharp rocks. P series tires don't cut it, the OEM tires got me 3 flats, and every other truck on site switches out the tires for 10 ply's for the same reason.

    90% pavement driving? Then you can't go wrong with the LTX MS2 tires. Agree with the other posters that they work very well off-road in dry conditions, but NO mud.

    So you are calling all of us who have the ms2's soccermoms:rolleyes:
    I had a set of bfg's on my firstgen and wasn't impressed at all with them. They suck on road, especially in rain, and they where only ok in snow. The ms2's are the absolute best tire for on road driving, nothing else can come close. I don't know what the e load would be like though.

    Had them on a 4x4 and now on a 2 wd. Hands down for 90% road And a lil woods time You just cant beat them.. Not cheep but well worth it to me as they last forever.I ride on nothing else.:) [​IMG]

    I'd have to agree with this... Mud is the only place I've found this tire performed less than excellent. Even that wasn't too bad, just a bit of a loss of directional stability. If you do 90% pavement driving, I think you'll be pleased with them.

    He said that you can move the lugs around with just the tip of your finger, and that their "looseness" is causing lots of cupping and irregular wear. When I went in I noticed that they no longer have any in stock so I think there is something to it.

    Had them on my '06. Mostly highway driving. I loved them. Not bad offroad, but thats <10% of the time.

    :( I guess time will tell. I questioned the guys at Big Brand fairly extensively, and they kept telling me that was the best tire they had in a mostly highway AT. They certainly had other options to sell me........

    I will watch the rotation closely on these. I will say that I am a very observant person, and I walked around looking at tires on parked vehicles for a couple of months before I bought mine. I have seen many half worn down sets that looked fine.

    This is funny to me so going to have to call BS.. Only time I seen them bad is when the truck is not taken care of. Can you say alignment.. I got 75 k out of a set & THE TREAD STILL LOOKED GOOD but I try to take care of my truck and tires. Ill just leave this here[​IMG]

    Thanks everyone. Appreciate the opinions - I tend to over-think things like this so I just pulled the trigger. LTX MS2's were unavailable for another 10 days. As such, I have convinced myself that I need something more aggressive, and got some Pirelli Scorpion ATRs. They look great, drive smooth, and apparently have recently been selected as #1 recommended all terrain tire from consumer reports.

    I found a tire shop that will give me $75 a piece for the old Dungflops. Happy happy happy, Jack.

    I agree: The Cooper AT/3 is a solid tire. They also make it in an E load range. I live in Vt and have had them for about 17 months through two winters. Handle well through mud season and still have good tread left. I am thinking of getting another set in the fall in the 235/85/16 size. Good luck on choosing.

    I ran 2 sets of LTX m/s on my last truck and both sets lasted 100,000 miles. They did ok in shallow mud but I wouldn't run them in anything thicker than that. They did ok offroad too. If your looking for a good highway tire the michelin is the way to go. I'm running Nitto Terra Grapplers now and they seem to be holding up pretty good on and off road.

    Well... the Pirellis won't balance for shit. Took them back for a re-balance. They spent 2 hours trying to fine-tune them and they still have a shudder at highway speeds. I'm now town between asking for a new set or going for the michelins.

    The Pirellis are great tires in school zones...

    This is baffling and sounds like bs. I love them, been great it lots of conditions on and offroad. Rotate every 5k, no probs in 30k.

    When I go back I'll tell the tire department manager that he may very well be full of crap - see where he takes it.

    I wasn't too concerned because I was never too eager about the LTX AT2 anyway. I was leaning towards the MS2 mostly for the low rolling resistance and smooth highway ride. If I was going for an A/T for traction I'd likely stick with the BFG's. The Scorpion's seem like a good compromise, if they would balance.
