Will I regret buying these LTX MS2 highway tires?

Poll closed Jun 16, 2013.
  1. Yes - stick with an A/T tire because the LTX MS2 will get you stuck.

Clarity on the LTX A/T2 redesign issue, and first impressions of my new LTX MS2:

The issue with the LTX AT2 has already been addressed and there has been a minor design change. I have noticed that a lot of places are still selling the old style. The centre two rows of lugs used to be 3 section lugs. they are now larger 2 section lugs. See attached - new design on the left, then the old design.

I went for the MS2 and WOW. I have driven several tacomas other than my own through work, and have pushed each of them. I have used BFG AT KO, Pirelli Scorpion ATR, Nitto Terra Grappler, Good Year Silent Armour all terrain, Firestone Desitation AT, as well as the crap stockers. I cannot believe how nice these Michelins ride. The truck rides like an Acura SUV instead of a small truck on 10 ply tires. I took it on a windy road and had my wife PISSED at the speed I was winding around some tight turns and I didn't even get a hint of a yaw, slide, or slip. Until the day I get stuck in the mud, I am going to LOVE these tires.

Yeah I became domesticated a few years ago when we moved from the wilderness of Tweedsmuir Park to a city. I could change my name, but it's not like I'm getting stuck on my way to or from the local lakes...

I'm also thinking there's no need for my More Power Wyeth Scott hand winch and tire chains in my truck kit, but what the hell.

I just got the LTX MS2's put on Monday. They are so smooth I can't beleive it. They ride great, and grippy. There's $70 rebate going on until the 17th.

After getting the 10 ply LTX MS2's installed, I did a camping/fishing/work road trip. After 2250 kms on them (mostly hwy, also city, town, and off road) I got 12.0 l/100 km (19.6 mpg).

2013 TRD Sport dclb, completely stock other than tires.

    Another testimonial:

I have ~40K miles on my MS/AT2 and recently returned from an elk hunting trip in the Flat Tops of Colorado. Fishing, hunting and work put more than 30% of my miles on the odo and given that I travel a lot of interstate to find those off-road access trails, this tire is better than 50% tread with regular rotations. Pack some chains and your dollar per mile cost, as well as your confidence level, should be as good or better than that of any other competitor's tire. Given my off-road use is so high, I will consider the AT next go-round but damn, what a great combo for the 2.7L: low rolling resistance for mpg and quiet ride, great grip in all but deeper mud and wet, smooth terrain as mentioned. Mild chains in the front make up the diff.

Reviving an old thread. Just ordered the MS2's for my truck. Was really looking for an AT, but logic got the best of me since I drive 98% highway/city. Hope I made the right choice.

I don't think you'll regret it, I had a pair for 4 years and close to 70,000 miles that I just replaced. Mine still had plenty of tread but the sidewalls had cracked so badly I was afraid of a blow out. I replaced them with open country II's and even though I love the look of the OC 2's I miss the ms2's performance and silence on the road.

My ms2's have been awesome. I have had them on for a few years now and am only considering getting bigger ones.

Have not run these on a Tacoma, but have run them on an '08 GMT900, 2500 HD, 2WD with 6.0L and I ran them on a 2011 Ford F-150, XLT, 5.0L, 2wd and have to overstate, the Michelin LTX, MS/2 is the absolute best tire money can buy for a pickup.

It doesn't look all that great, no it's not a good mud or rock tire. But it is great in snow, sand, ice and rain. The quality is absolutely outstanding, but in my opinion the selling points are ride quality, noise, road tracking and wet traction.

I think they are perfect for a truck that sees 90% highway. I plan to mount them on my 2010 Tacoma, DC, V6 when the horrible Dunlops wear out, or hopefully sooner than that.

Update for those who initially chimed in, I am still loving the MS2's and do not regret them at all. I have had them off road a bit and was very surprised with their traction on steep wet rock. They won't displace mud but if there's something solid for them to grab on to, they sure as shit do.

Also, check out the hardware I picked up. I have never pulled so much steel out of a tire without hearing the inevitable hissssssss.

These things are great. (for me) :D
