Anyone going out to the sand box this weekend? My buddy from AZ is coming to visit, we're thinking about heading out on Saturday.

Damn. I would love to. I am in the midst of painting my bed rack and putting a tent on the rig (doing it this weekend in fact). I was thinking about going somewhere on the weekend of the 22/23rd to sleep in the new doghouse (as the wife likes to call it) and do some exploring. Was thinking the Manistee area.

Just to be sure, are you referring to Silver Lake? If so, next time you plan on heading up there let me know man.

I was going to hit the dunes this weekend, but never got time to get the truck ready. Last weekend in the Jeep just wasn't the same. I will be up one of the next few weekends, just not sure which yet. I need to find some time to knock the prep list for this season. My truck hasn't really been touched since closing weekend.

I haven't been to the dunes yet. How is it in terms of getting stuck, etc...? Would I need anything in the way of recovery gear? I have some decent tires and a mild lift with OME suspension.

    Just go.

You have to have a flag, I can't remember if you need the ORV license.

Air down the tires and go. A tow strap and know were your tow points are on the truck.

Honestly, there are so many people with gear to get you unstuck, it's not even worth it to have your own stuff. Others want to use their extraction gear so bad, you sure when they roll up asking if you need help, they are sporting wood.

    Air down and have fun!

I run 10 psi front and 8 psi rear on a 265/70R17 ko2 and never been stuck. Once you feel the truck lose forward momentum stop and back out before you bury it.

You'll need 3 permits: ORV ($26) , ORV Trail ($10) and Mich state park sticker ($11). All 3 can be purchased at the welcome center down road from the dune entrance.

You can buy the dune flag and mount at B&L Motorsports or David Allen racing both places are located across the street from the dune entrance.

I'll be up there may 6-7.

I have 2 sets of headlights, a cloudy set of OEM's and a set of blacked out aftermarkets for a 2006 Taco. They're free to anyone who want's to pick them up in Newaygo, MI, about 40 miles NW of Grand Rapids. I'll give it a couple weeks then they're going in the trash. As a bonus, I have 2 flags for Silver Lake I'll throw in with the headlights if someone want's them too. I don't get on here much so your best bet is to call or text me at 847-915-8675

I sold my Taco a few weeks ago and bought a new Tundra so I have no use for them.

As far as Fire Roads go, I am familiar with a lot of them in the Manistee/Wexford/Lake County area. I also know a lot of Two Track Trails, but I don't take my "new truck" down any of those.

I snowmobile all the trails in my area, I know the area well. This is my 1st Tacoma (brand new at that), so I'm not real big into serious off roading it at this time. Willing to cruise some dirt/fire roads though.
