Do we want to do a TW meet up within the Toyota takeover meet up tomorrow at the dunes?

This is the difference between private and state supervised venues.

It won't take long for the park rangers to ask you to exit post haste.

The place is beautiful, I think even the most callous litterbug knows to not drop as much as a cigarette butt.

So disappointing day. Didn’t stop raining but rained harder after we got there. No one was hanging out at the Toyota takeover. There was a dog tho. Then, when I wanted to go up the big hill something was going on with the rpm’s. They would cut out 3/4 of the way up the hill so I couldn’t make it. I was in 4hi and sport mode - second and third. Like I have done the last few times I went. I tried going up in 4lo too. I think the traction control didn’t turn off. Auto LSD was also on and I don’t remember seeing that before when I was in 4lo. Anyway, 3.5 hours of driving for general disappointment. Going to hit some wineries on the way home. On top of it all, while we were gone a porch pirate stole my husbands Amazon package. The neighbors saw what happened and got the plate number and the package was returned. So yeah, that’s my Saturday. Didn’t get to use the speaker either.

Sounds like it was your traction control that was messing with you. Like you, I’ve found that once I get my tire pressure dialed in, 4hi in 1-3rd gear, with A-Trac on (manual trans only) works best on the dunes. I also experienced interference when traction control was active, but once I turned it off everything was good. The trouble is that traction control automatically turns back on whenever the vehicle is turned off… So after every time I parked my truck and got out to shoot the breeze with someone or evaluate a route, whenever I got back in and started the truck there was an inevitable bout of cursing as I fumbled with getting the traction control turned off again before pulling away.

Well I'll be damned, I didn't know A trac would work in 4hi. I have a manual too. I honestly never thought to try it when I was there a couple of weeks ago. Good to know. I just ran around in 4lo, in 3rd and 4th. I had A trac on, but it never engaged. Very dry that weekend but I was able to climb every hill there, including test hill, left to right. I don't recall seeing auto LSD on in 4lo like @rimfire7 said she did. Maybe she had some technical gremlins going on?

Unfortunately the weather sucked and never let up until 6pm. The SXS event moved to the golf course so there wasnt really anywhere to take everyone that was dry. We had been lucky with the weather on previous years so it was bound to happen I guess.

On another note what tire pressure were you running? Sometimes when its that wet you may actually have to run more tire pressure so there isnt to much traction causing a big load and heating up. If that makes sense. Used to happen to a Jeep the trans computer would basically go into some limp mode.

I started out at 18-19 psi and thought lowering it to 15 psi might help. It didn't. The RPM's just cut out right before the top of the hill.

Sounds like you were right on the money with your PSI's and wet sand. I can't see that being the problem. Auto LSD shouldn't have been on in 4lo. Something else was going on.

Soooooo it turns out I’m not that bright. I just looked into it and A-Trac only works in 4lo. I was just pressing the A-Trac button like a moron to no effect while I was out there.

    That is all, carry on.

Got stood up for a date, had friends cancel on me the next day, made a great decision to drink solo at home because of it and then couldn't get anyone to hang out or even talk much Saturday night so that really helped the depression.

    Good times

Auto LSD should not be on in 4Lo

Sorry to hear that, that can be disappointing. I mean its the weekend, time to hang out and have fun. Something to consider, IF it happens again go out solo. Sit at the bar and meet new friends. They don't just drop in your lap. lol And you can have fun too.
