Going for the mullet build...business in the front - party in the back ?

 

party all around. im going spring under in a couple months so this is working up to that

 

I feel this pain. I tried backing off the preload on the driver side and only got 1/4 turn before giving up. I didn't have their special tool so I used a 1/4" hex wrench (or something about that size) and pounded with a hammer on the end of the part that goes 90º (and yes, I did take out the retaining bolt completely before trying this).


Question; so I just put on the Dirt King lowers and uppers. Alignment is really goofy, of course, but I'm getting a really bouncy feeling in the front. is that have anything to do from that little bit of preload I changed, the change in feel with those delrin bushings, the alignment, or is my valving set too hard?

 

Did you have the truck jacked up to full droop when you were trying to adjust it ? I do have the King bar to do it with but mine is really easy to do. You should buy the special King tool, it's cheap and fits the holes perfectly so you won't deform and scratch up the holes in the collar.

You don't have to take out the pinch bolt and really should not on the off chance that the collar could jump a thread. It is a good idea to spray a bit of penetrant fluid on the top of the collar before you adjust them too, it will losen up any gunk in the threads.

The Delrin bushings actually rotate smoother than poly bushings and just changing arms would not cause any different feel in your CO's. Are the King's brand new too ?

 

Kings are about a year old, maybe two. They have seen two trail runs. 13k miles?

I had the lower portion completely separated from the LCA while having the top attached to the coil bucket. I was wondering if that pinch bolt needed complete removal because of how hard it was and how it might be designed like motorcycle clutch levers, where you can't do anything until the bolt is out.

 

yeah mine was at full droop and i broke my spanner wrench and two 5/16 hardened steel punches trying to decrank it. Pinch bolt was loose as it could be without removing it and i hosed it down with lube.

I have this same tool when I was adjusting mine I felt like it was going to break

 

Only loosed that pinch bolt slightly! Any more an itll jump threads on the shock body and more than likely screw up the aluminum collar that the top of the shock that the spring pushes up against. Happened to me before an it's a pain in the ass!

Just adjusted the new coilovers on the truck with the #600 spring to about 3 inches and it's a bit rough.

Had it set at 2 inch and felt super smooth but didn't sit where I wanted it to :/

feels good now. Both sides are dead center and drives really nice. Drove a ton of miles this weekend and so far i love it. I really need to change my rear shocks soon though.

 

I'd sort the alignmentout first, at least make sure it's close.

Going to DK upper and lower did feel a bit different than the OEM, but I also got caster back (1.5 to 3) so thats huge.

 

I feel your pain, really. When I sold my longer Icons and drove on OEM Length ones until I had everything I needed for my relocate. They had zero bump but I didnt want to roll on just my Deavers for 90 days.
Every bump I hit I was wating for them to rip apart.
