Find a used set of coilovers and have them rebuilt.

might take a minute but they're out there

    Sliders, 6112's, full skids.
Bilsteins are digressive so they handle better on the road but are worse for small bump sensitivity. I’ve run the 6112’s and 5160 and IMO they offer the best performance at that price point. They won’t compete with 2.5 kings though off-road. You need to jump up to bilsteins 8112 series front shocks if you want that performance offered by 2.5 kings, and that’s a completely different league in terms of price and how hard they can be pushed. The 8112s can be driven longer until needing rebuild compared to offerings from king and fox.

Is Bilstein even a mid-travel contender?

I ask as someone with a lame truck

I was wondering that about bilstein as well.
As I too have a truck that is not as cool as the 17 year olds.

wouldn’t recommend jumping truck without doing a full set-up just asking for frame damage. There is thread on here of members who wheel their truck hard but most of them say they think all the cracks in the frame are from driving 60 on old dirt roads and jumping. That’s people with full king set ups, king bump stops, limit straps, reinforced strut mounts, and etc.

@Tyler Sexton I've been around the block a couple of times to know this. "By once, Cry once." Yes, rebuildable coilovers are expensive but you will one need to buy them one time and rebuild when you need to.
What are your plans for the truck in the future?

That's what it cost to pay someone to do the work. Not everyone has the resources or skill to rebuild race shocks themselves.

Mid travel is OK but for 90% of people, Bilsteins or stock suspension are fine options you need long travel. A lot of of people who are new to the scene just want to buy shiny things to look cool but haven't even taken their truck off-road to know what they want/ need.

When people buy king/ fox/ icon suspension, they think it'll last the lifetime of the vehicle and would never have them rebuilt, or when they do, they've realized what an inconvenience it can be if its their daily driver.

Here is one quote I got just now from a local to me provider who works for himself (out of his garage)

I paid right around 1000 to have a full set of icons w/ resis rebuilt just a couple months ago.

What did that service entail? Seals and oil only or shafts and rod ends as well?

Seals, oil and the bearing things only reason you should need rod ends is if you let your bearing things die and then rot away.
