You have two associates degrees, you would have two years left to get your Bachelors degree. You could go into a two year ROTC scholarship and get school completely paid for, then come out as a commissioned officer with no school debt. Plus making around 5k a month as an O-1. how is that not a good benefit?

That sounds like a great deal but I've just going by from what I've heard others say. I'm not bashing any.

Do you get between 3-3.5k a month and active duty benefits like in the program I mentioned? Full time E-3 pay and benefits just to go to school

I know your not bashing. I'm just giving you the whole picture. Yes, going through ROTC sucks and it is stupid. I had 4 yrs of community college with the same as you, plus 2 years as an enlisted soldier before I looked into ROTC. I wanted ROTC, but in order to make CPT you need a bachelors, so I went ahead and did two years in ROTC. No debt coming out of school and many other good things have happened. I worked hard for it all, b/c I don't like things given to me. 5 years later and with 2 deployments now, I have still loved every minute of it.

I'm not to clear on the Navy or Air Force ROTC side, but on the Army side if you do SMP with ROTC and the National Guard or Reserves you get E-5 pay plus other benefits.

PM'd. As @mrbedgood said, an rotc SCHOLARSHIP is also an option. Everything can be paid. Again, that will depend on any potential test scores.

I'm going to look fully into everything and go from there. I just think being in military itself is a wise decision and I think I want to commit to that

If you didn't have any kids then I would say hell yeah and do it. But if you want the best for them. Wouldn't it seem best that you were with them? Is there a problem you can't get a good job with what you have?

I grew up with divorce parents, lived with my mom but still got to see my dad on some weekends. That kinda sucked enough. I couldn't imagine if couldn't see him for months or years straight.

Just something to think about. Me and my dad are like best friends still, but that didn't happen from me not getting to spend time with him.

I don't want to sound like I'm putting pressure on you and that your kid isn't going to like you or something lol. Just something to really think about.

Also have you thought about the air guard or national guard? Or do you want to do full time?
I've though about going to OTS for the air force after college and then try to get into pilot school and fly for the Missouri air guard. But it's really really hard to do and very competitive so yeah.

Yeah it's in my head also. It would be really tough not to see my kids.

My 2 cents is to think everything through, do all the research you can. I joined the guard as a air traffic controller thinking that would net me the best job after training on the civilian side, but I was far from wrong. But the military status has helped me gain a handful of good jobs over the years, so it paid off. I was in a tough spot when I joined but if it wasn't for that I would have explored my options elsewhere with the many good paying jobs that don't require much to get your foot in the door

If your serious about flying, study for the SIFT test (what used to be AFAST) make sure you can pass a flight physical (eye sight is a big one) and you should be fine

Yeah it's the eyesight thing that's going to get me probably. I'm practically blind without my contacts. My prescription is -5.25 and -5. Some say all I need is 20/20 with the contacts in but idk.:notsure:

Well I think I may have narrowed my choices down. Coast guard or civil service work on a base.

PLEASE use TW as a resource before just jumping in head first. Recruiters aren't bad people but there is a lot of first hand knowledge in all fields on tw. @Slimwood Shady was a Army recruiter, @loco is Navy was enlisted and is now commissioned.

But he makes tons more cash $$$$$

Please do yourself a favor and finish up your Bachelors and go OCS. It would be silly to enlist when you can get commissioned; make more money, more entitlements and better living conditions. I've got 9 years in the Navy enlisted if you want to chat shoot me a PM, or even message me your phone number. @ckeene9 isn't military, but he might as well be supporting the mission forward as a civilian is damn near the same in my eyes if you have deployed to a combat zone.
