Hello! I need help with picking out what I need to do to redo my suspension on my Tacoma.

Currently running stock suspension on a 2005 Tacoma, yet want to upgrade to something that I would be able to have fun with. Ex: small jumps, smoother ride, etc.

In the future I want to do a full long travel kit, however I don't have the money currently.

Right now I want to put king coilovers on the front and and king shocks on the back. However I am confused on what I need to do this with stock suspension. I read that for a mid travel kit I only need Upper Control Arms for the front and I can leave the back stock. Is that true? If not what else do I need?

List for what I will buy (all from all pro off road)
King Long Travel Coilovers with adjusters
    King Rear Shocks with adjusters
    All Pro Off Road UCA

Anything I need to add or change?

    Thank you!

The beast is down below! Let me know what you think

Great looking truck.. If you're planning on jumping the truck, I would start out by reinforcing the motor mounts. The 05 & 06 models were notorious for having engine mount failures. Wouldn't hurt to gusset other components up as well. The kings with resis and adjusters should serve you well

The only thing to note here is that long travel coilovers wont work with the stock arms. You are probably thinking of extended travel coilovers which will, but want to make sure you know that they are different

Thank you! That helps me a lot. I will start looking at reinforcing the motor mounts. And I’ll look at the extended travel coilovers. I understand that I can’t be jumping 10-20 feet and soaring sky high, but I will atleast be able to get a couple feet of air or so with this setup right? That being without bottoming out or breaking something.

Honestly, id be very careful jumping the truck without gusseting things beforehand. Youll be able to haul ass offroad, but jumping it without it being built specifically for that, is asking for trouble

If you are thinking about going long travel down the road just wait. why buy stuff and do all the work twice. Just my 2 cents. I have extended travel Kings front and rear. Dirt king UCAS and icon AAL. If your thinking of doing a set up like mine word of advice. Get 600lb coils and the adjusters for sure. I have 650 and no adjusters and I can tell you that is what I would change.

Yeah you make a good point. I’ll think it through before I start jumping and in the end I want a full long travel build, but I’ll start with the suspension and motor mounts for a smoother ride now. Thank you!

You make a good point with waiting, but I’m gonna honest, I’m super impatient and don’t want to fix that. I don’t mind spending the money to buy it twice. For your setup, were the AAL necessary? And for the front suspension, all you need for the extended coilovers are the UCAs right? And whats so good about the adjusters?
Lol I have heard that long travel daily’s suck! That is not the plan when I do my full build. I will have another daily

No AAL was not needed I just did it to have a level look. And yeah UCAS and extended travel coils is all you need. As far as the adjusters it’s nice to have the option to soften the ride for the pavement and stiffennit up on the dirt. With out it it’s pretty stiff on the road it softens up when you open it up on the dirt. The faster the better it feels in my opinion.

Okay thank you. That clears a lot up. For the rear suspension, I can run the shocks with stock leafsprings right? I don’t need anything after market to run with the king shocks?

That is correct. King makes OEM replacements. No leaf spring needed but in my opinion you can get the AAL for like under 300 bucks it will lift the rear a tad and give you that much more durability over Toyota stock leafs.
