I had a hell of a time finding parking in Los Angeles with a full size at many places. It made it tough to get in and out of the Whole Foods Parking lot...

But seriously in AZ, this place is designed for large trucks I swear. The parking spots here, most places, are huge! It really depends where you live I think as to whether the size of the truck (a half-ton compared to a Tacoma) is really not a huge difference.

Without spending way more than necessary, I decided to buy exactly what I wanted & needed. My TRD/OR V6 4x4 Access Cab fits in my garage, gets decent mpg's, hauls what I need to haul, looks good, is reliable, and has great resale value. Got no use for a Full-size....

Author is not incorrect. my truck is pointless. I can't fit what I need to in there since it's a short bed. It can't tow very well. It's not utilitarian. Call a spade a spade. When I need to get plywood/drywall I either rent the HD truck or have it delivered. It doesn't fit couches or mattresses so I can't help friends move. All good things. I can only use it to haul camping/outdoor gear. Or kegs to a tailgate. All good things. But not always productive things.

That's why you guys are all on here though. No? BECAUSE the more pointless something is, the more fun it is to own it.The more fun you have with it, because others are in practical things and you are not. You are different. You have the ability, the luxury, to own something that is pointless to others that gives you FUN.

    Think about this:
    Jeep forum: huge
    Miata forum: huge
    Tacoma forum: huge.

All pointless vehicles. All owned because they are fun to have. All with huge forums with members that also like to have FUN. The guy's not incorrect, he just doesn't get the visceral reason why people do things: for enjoyment of life.

I had a 2006 Tundra crew cab then a 2011 F-150 crew cab and liked a lot about each of these trucks but didn't like not being able to fit them in my garage and parking a full size truck in Austin can be a PITA. I thought back on the trucks I've owned and my favorite was my 1991 Ford Ranger extended cab 4x4. That played a factor in my decision to go with the Tacoma. I knew going in it was a midsize truck but for some owners this seems to be a surprise after they sign the paperwork. My thought process was quite the opposite.. I downsized intentionally and am glad I did but obviously it took me a few trucks to figure out what I wanted.

I hear this all the time from other construction workers. They always say why nt buy a real truck.

Taco fits my needs. I dont need payload or towing as I don't tow and the payload I need is met. Mines mostly for camping/overlanding which mid sizes are much better for since the trails around here are tight.

I don't see them as a waste, but if you need a truck for towing, you should probably just get a full size.

On the flip side in my town I see more full sizes lifted on 4 inch blocks and spacers and rolling on oversized rims and shit mall crawler fad tires. No way they can do the work they were meant to.

subaru's suck on fuel...even more than our tacos. Seriously I had a STI in the past and it sucks. My parents 2.5L forester gets similar MPG to my truck. Fuck that

The Tacoma is a fat girl in a bikini trying to pretend she's a super model. Everyone can see she's big but her. I miss my 95 Toyota (pre-Tacoma). Perfect size truck!

I had a black 95.. it got to where I couldn't fit in the cab anymore (I'm 6' 3"). But I agree the older ones had a simplicity to the way they looked.. it had 300k when i sold it for 4500 bucks too!

Shoot, if it won't fit in the bed, I'll hook up the trailer. If it's too heavy for the Tacoma to pull... I have access to a super duty duely, goose neck cattle trailer, fifth wheel car hauler, two utility other trailers... that's not why I bought the Tacoma. The full size is the "inbetween" vehicle around the ranch. Just big enough to do some things in, but not big enough to move any large equipment. A full sized 1500 is almost a wasted investment on a ranch. You either need 4X4 and mobility, or you need heavy pulling power.
Vehicles each have their own purpose, and trying to compare them to jobs they aren't designed for is futile because the same argument could be made against any other vehicle out there.

I agree to an extent, my '10 Forester gets 26 highway and 20 in town, but they have come around quite a bit in the past couple years and the Crosstrek's are getting about 30 with the CVT trans and smaller motor.

I just considered it a cost of ownership, with dedicated studless snows and the Sub AWD they are beasts in bad winter conditions. I feel safer with my wife and kids in that car than in the Tacoma on snow and ice.

Our Outback gets 30 plus, much better than any of my tacos. But they are not designed to gas sippers, we got ours because its up a little bit and can dash through the snow.

Had a red one, till yota gave me 3 plus grand more than I paid for it due to frame rot.

reads like you bought the wrong truck for your needs. But you bring up great points on the "good things".

look at the size of the doors and then the front end as he backs out... those are definitely tundra headlights and grille

i know its hard to tell, im not calling you out.. but seriously the media shouldnt call out shit they dont know... seeing it at the most basic level, they cant even call out vehicle models correctly.
